And so it begins...

Got it out to the range today. Functioned perfectly and was very comfortable to shoot. Sighted it in with 140gr American gunner. Then shot two five shot groups each with 140gr American Gunner, 120gr ELDM, 140gr ELDM, and 147gr ELDM to try to see what it liked. Got pretty windy when I was shooting the 147gr. All of them shot well, but the 140gr ELDM definitely stood out. After that went and shot some steel reaching out to 660yds.

I am impressed and super happy with the rifle so far.

Average velocities:

140gr AG: 2680 fps
120gr ELDM: 2895 fps
140gr ELDM: 2744 fps
147gr ELDM: 2769 fps

Pretty surprised the 147gr was faster than the 140gr.

Dam sun, that 140 ELDM printing great! I'd buy 3500rnds of that to burn out the barrel and not even handload! Lol
This is a fun thread with such forward progress in a limited amount of posts and a fantastic result in the end.
I am no PRS champ, or even PRS shooter, but I try to act like one in the back 40. I wouldn't chase the fastest velocity. Saw a MDT video of Francis Colon talking about scaling back velocity to enhance precision, reduce recoil to better see the hits/splash. Makes perfect sense to me.

Thanks man. If it keeps shooting 140 ELDM like that, I'll definitely feel less pressure to start reloading. Hopefully I will get out there again this week and see how it does with some 10rd groups. I'm always a little nervous taking a rifle out for the first time that it won't meet my expectations. So far this one definitely has.

#4 lists Zermatt under actions and .243. #5 Lists .308 and 7-08. I'm guessing I would want #4?

I use Sinclair but I think the difference is the diameter of the bore hole internally, externally they are the same.
If your rod is a 30cal diameter then you would need to use the #5 to fit it.
BUT you can use the smaller diameters rods in the larger bore hole. I use the Sinclair #4 equivalent for everything including my 30cals as I have a 22 cal rod. It has a little more wobble room but still keeps it centered enough that my jags aren’t going in sideways.

Possum Hollow solvent ports come in .17-.26 and .27-.30 so even with the larger internal you can use the smaller rods without much wiggle. I use my #5 with everything from 6mm to .30.

Barrel arrived this afternoon. Gave it a good cleaning and installed the action and brake. Installing the action was silly easy. Torqued vise to 40 ft/lbs and action to 70 ft/lbs. Checked with go/no-go gauges and it's good to go. What may be more amazing was the brake timed perfectly with no washers/shims. 😲

Going to toss it in the chassis and setup the scope a little later.
did you get that Viper barrel vise recently? Did it take a while to ship?
