And yet another one for fl

they got a shit-ton of rain and 100 mph winds instead of the surge. :(

We'll have to see what it looks like tomorrow. Could be the difference between everything flooded and trees down vs everything razed down to the foundations like the LA/MS coast.

The NC stuff was wild with the rain they got but the terrain is different there than FL.

You guys are fucking killing me

If they are concerned with a majority of that article, then they need to educate themselves on how to be a pool owner.
Their pool isn't going to pop out of the ground unless they drain it empty.
Of course it's going to change the ph.
If they don't have a proper drain trough on their pool deck, then they have a super, super old house and pool.
The trough will drain it to the lawn area.
If rainwater is filling the pool, then the overflow isn't going to wet anything else that isn't already saturated.

If after all of that, they can simple hook up the drain hose to the filter system, open the proper valves and purge the filter which will also remove water from the pool.

This isn't Boeing rocket surgery.
It's a pool. The pump has many uses to include control of the water level...

Mike i typed several replies to this and backed out.
I can give instructions on how to get to water but cant make them drink.
It really isnt rocket science. Just normal everyday common sense really.

I keep telling the kids how having stuff is nice.
Then I try to get them to understand that knowing HOW and WHY to use it is super important.

Just woke up. Was checking the security footage before the sun comes up Just minor twig and leaf damage. it seems. I haven't been out back yet but we'll see how far up the crest in the dry river bank got to my retaining wall.

Out front, we got a bit of surprise. The storm drains in the cul-de-sac seem to have backed up leaving a ring of water all around the cul-de-sac. Some of the outer driveways have a bit of water cover. Mine seems OK... right up to the driveway line. But my big tree seems to have held up. Hope the ground is not so drenched that it starts to lean over ("Leaning Tree of Pisa" :ROFLMAO:). I think the root network is still pretty good, and the lawn doesn't seem so soaked around the tree base. We'll see.

I'll go out later on this morning after sunrise, and do a full inspection. But it appears, at present, we did in fact dodge a bullet. Thank goodness. I pray for the others that may not have been so fortunate.

seems odd. both milton and helene started out as not much and reached 4/5 levels fast and moving fast. if it goes in thru tampa bay,the damage will exceed andrew. west hillsbourgh county and most of pasco/pinellas,some of hernando are very low and heavily developed. west side of state got hit hard by helene. tampa gen hosp is about 3' below sea level and has had storm/flood problems in the past. i am well out of flood zone will get any damage from wind. all trees are away from the house. ground is saturated,so,could get some flooding from heavy rain accumulation. family is in bradenton and naples so they will get hit hard. they are away from the coast, wind will be their problem as well. this on top of helene will make the gulf beaches almost impossible to rebuild in < 10 years.
IF i were paranoid, would wonder about the ability of the weather to be controlled or influenced. and, another red area hit,fl being mostly rep. gr son is in NG and was activated yesterday. likely going to tampa i bet. looting there is gonna be huge.

Power off and on through the night. On right now. Lots of wind noise. As near as I can determine, the eye passed over or pretty close. It was really quiet around midnight.

Did a recon earlier. Lost one gate, but everything else seems good. My son gained a storage building in his backyard.

Thankfully, except for some very minor "instant" glitches, I did not lose power. My UPS boxes held their own! :)🤠

My gates and other fencing appear to be in tact. I definitely heard the wind, last night. I also heard some critters "creaking" right at the base of my bedroom window. Might have been crickets, but I don't know. It pestered the Hell out of me. I had to go into my "Inventory" closet and pull out a pair of foam ear plugs to plug in overnight so I would hear it as much. It sucked, as I actually find comfort in hearing the wind (as long as it's not too big/loud). It helps me get to sleep.

The critters, though, are another matter.

So the Nattering Network Nitwit Nostradamus predictions of Florida getting cleved in two and Miami now being the capitol of an island nation did not come to pass?

So far all the folks I’ve heard from said it was not as bad as they thought… but pretty much everyone I know in FL is from further inland. So no idea if Sarasota is now a Python-sanctuary parking lot.

Glad to know our ‘hiders are doing ok so far! I’d have expected the six P’s from folks here!

Cheers! Sirhr

An 8:30am Update.

Apparently, there was a brief outage while I was sleeping (so I missed it), but still within the capacity of my UPS boxes to handle it. Whenever I have to reprogram my thermostat with the time, I know the power was out, even for a small glitch.

The storm drain puddle is increasing, even in the last few hours. This is what it's like now:

This is my back yard. As you can see, the "dry" river bed ain't so dry anymore. Thankfully, it has not crested over the top of the retaining wall (2 ft high).

maybe somebody can go out and rake the drains clear?

There are two drain entries in my part of the cul-de-sac. Both are overflowing. One of them is far away from any tree branches so I don't think it could be clogged. I think this is just general back up and overflow. The Storm Drain system is just overburdened. Could be worse. Could be the regular sewer system.

I should also add that a 3rd drain entry at the mouth of the cul-de-sac is also overflowing. The entire Cul-de-sac is at risk, as well as the streets leading into it.

I guess it's like Bill Cosby's routine with Noah: "Let it rain for 40 days and 40 nights, and wait for the sewers to back up!"

God: "Riiiiight!"

Lost power at 12:20 am. Still out. A lot of wind and rain all night. Luckily the damage is limited to the pool screening and the flooding is limited to the yard and street.

40+ mi inland from cedar key. never lost power. less blow down than milton. family in manatee lost power,no significant damage. they were way inland. haven't heard from naples yet. saw film from tampa. damage not what expected but still massive and in places i wouldn't expect. still gonna be a long, expensive job. haven't seen anything from pinellas but can't be good.

Where’s the folks who think the retards in charge are smart enough to control hurricanes? They should thank them for turning this one down a few notches.

As I recall from a Miami storm, by the time you know you’re a target, there isn’t enough time. I believe two weeks was mentioned.
Internet says from hours to days, that’s helpful. Lol
“Maybe today maybe next month. You’ll know when it’s gone.”

A 4:30p Update.

The cul-de-sac waters are now receding. It's getting better. I have to hope this continues so that we can start to get deliveries again. The back yard waters are down off the retaining wall by about 1-2" or so. Let's hope this continues. The 7 day forecast seems to not have very much in the way of rain, so that's a good thing. Hopefully, it will dry out quickly.

Personally I thought it was freaking awesome to not see 47 Amazon, 12 UPS and 9 FedUp trucks on my cul de sac today.

I say get out of the house and go shopping for yourself.
I hate on line shopping and delivery.

i will willingly pay more at a brick and mortar store to help them survive. i don't want to end up without a choice.
i also don't shop at walmart (for similar reasons). even as a poor, i put principles above price.

/luckily i don't live someplace without lots of options.
//i'm not buying diapers and gallons of milk every other day, so i blame nobody if they shop there.

Fuck Walmart, most of their employees, and a good portion of the customers. I walk in and I’m instantly pissed off.

i think i have only been inside one once, on the road to somewhere...
i watched the high cost of low prices years ago.
I don’t go unless I really have to and then it’s a whole ordeal every fucking time.

You tell someone you need help “not my dept I’ll get someone”, wait 15 min. Tell someone else “they said they came over and you were gone” but you never moved and saw zero employees. I wanted a fishing license and there was nowhere else to go. Literally an hour later talking to 10 people the first person is back doing it because it’s her job.
