The search function has revealed much, but I'm curious about factory ammo compatability if one is inclined to use a reamer set up for the heavier match bullets. I know that many promote the 0.10" leade for being able to run tangent ogives and staying in mag box confines, yet some go even shorter to run the VLD's and jam lands.
Not having many components to assemble for comparison, will a 0.10" throat make a 260 Match chamber too short for typical factory ammo? Not talking BH or Cor-Bon Scenars here, but Accu-tips, Ballistic Tips, Gamekings, and other factory load offerings. It will likely make little difference to me, as I handload the majority of my rifle ammo, but I'm thinking on down the road when I'm gone and my kids or grandkids may not handload.
FWIW, my 260 700 Mtn Rifle will hit lands with Accubonds at 2.82" and this looks to indicate a throat of 0.20" or so. That would mean that a 0.10" throat would require a seating depth of 2.72" or so with that bullet. I dunno how that compares to most factory ammo, but the AB is fairly "pointy" for a hunting bullet. Something more blunt, like a Gameking or Partition would require an even shorter OAL. Magazine/throating harmony weighs heavily on my list of concerns for this 6.5mm built that I'm doing.
Monkeying with all these numbers gives a bit of insight regarding the 260 vs 6.5Creemore vs 6.5x47Lapua argument and definetly strengthens the nod toward a 2.9"+ mag box or DBM if a guy wants a do-it-all 260.
