Suppressors Another new guy asking questions...

We now have a local dealer who can get nfa items so I am looking at getting a suppressor..

In about a year judging by the wait times but anyway..

figured I will ask the pros what to get, looking for a 22 cal suppressor for a sig mosquito and ruger 10/22 interchangeably possibly ar use.. would prefer to buy once cry once and never regret it..

I am interested in lowest decibel capability with a good life span.. what would be the top of the list items to apply for???

Also you legally dont own them here. the county sheriff does and can take it at anytime. talk about sum bs! I sure would love to live where i could have one though!

Since when does it open you up to a legal search and seizure? That's bullshit. You don't legally own them? Again, calling BS unless you can cite actual proof of this, nowhere in the country have I seen evidence of this.

Just make sure you get a serviceable 22 can, they get filthy and will need cleaning periodically. My favorites are the SWR Spectre II and the SilencerCo Sparrow. The Spectre is longer, heavier, but is very easy to clean and very quiet. The Sparrow is smaller and lighter, but you will have some first round pop with it.

AAC and Griffin Armament make good user serviceable cans as well.

Buy once cry once huh? Surefire makes an awesome .22 cal can. Whatever you do....DO NOT buy a 5.56 can and shoot .22 through it. The Sparrow is an awesome can also...just make sure whatever you get is user serviceable.

Someone is misinterpreting owning an NFA item and being an FFL/SOT where the ATF can inspect your shop. Obviously completely different things.

I am going to raise the bullshit flag on this one. Please cite specific local, county, and state ordinances that say this... as a police officer this would be a blatant violation of your rights. If you can legally purchase an item I cannot willy nilly drp by your house, enter, and seize an item. There is no probable cause! The definition of probable cause is evidence that leads a reasonable person to believe that a specific person has committed an offense, a specific offense has occurred, or the fruits of a crime are sought to be in a specific location. Read EVIDENCE! So the coppers would need P.C. to come take your suppressor. Thing about it... glass bongs/pipes/paraphernalia are all legal items to be sold and used with tobacco (as they are advertised) but we all know what they are really used for... just because I know someone bought one doesnt give me the right to enter their dwelling or search their person at any given time because of this. I know that may seem like "apples and oranges" but any officer would have a bad day for just dropping on someone like that regardless if its a can or anything else.

Now... with that being said... if you are asked to produce documentation (tax stamp, receipts, etc) and you cannot then they can take it from you. If you are acting dumb with it they can take it from you. If you commit an offense with said suppressor they can take it and probably all your guns (depending on the severity of the crime).

For this to be REMOTELY possible a person would have to sign a document waiving their rights to receive a signature from the chief LEO. Even then this would be a hayday in court for any defense attorney. Sorry... I just cant see this ever being remotely true. Post up some sources!

The sad thing is that I have heard this so many times in so many places I don't know how much of any of it to believe anymore.. I have heard you are basically required to have an open door to any officer wanting to see them all the way up to they can come get it and you anytime they want.. it al sounds like a lot of bs to me

buy IN STOCK from an IN STATE dealer. send your own paper work (form 4s). don't let the dealer do it. if you are not sure how to do it, i'm sure someone from the hide (if you ask) in your area will gladly meet you somewhere and walk you thru it. it's easy. keep copies of everything. only catch, you gotta buy 'em a beer! ...and maybe a pizza...

i have a sparrow. when it was brand new, on a pistol, the FRP and over all suppression was horrendous. i was bummed. but after it got dirty, the FRP was negligible, and the suppression is excellent. CLICK.........TING! from what i read, the spectre 2 is supposed to be bad ass. no FRP, and better suppression. some will say sparrow for rifle, spectre 2 for pistol. i'm a rifle shooter, so it's no big deal to me. i'm in too deep to switch to spectre 2s. i have one in possession and waiting on 2 more. i'm happy with it though. i have 2000 rounds thru it with out cleaning, which needs to be done. we will see how the FRP is after i dip it.

Sorry i stirred the shit. I was reading the FFL paperwork not the NFA item paperwork (form 4). FFL the ATF has the right for unannounced inspection (during business hours). As for the signing of local law enforcement here in Pierce County, ive been told they wont sign off on it but thats easy to get around by just setting up a Trust and bypassing them completely.

there have been reports from end users that the dealer "did them a favor" by sending in the paper work. every once in awhile, someone will report with a horror story that the dealer never actually did send it in. the person waits for their 10 +/- months to be up, they call the NFA branch to check up on status, only to be horrified that the NFA never got paper work in because the dealer never sent it. sooooooooo, they have to start the process all over again and have to wait for another 10 +/- months.

Or you can go with a good dealer.... who uses the online system and you get a printout of what was actualy submitted.

Due dillegence is on the Customer to keep up with the Dealer. The dealer also probally does a shit ton of these and knows what to do and what not to do.

99% of the problem is going with shitty dealers.

If you're getting a 22 can, get one with steel baffles as it allows for more options when cleaning. I kinda regret getting a Pilot II because of the aluminum baffles. Eventually I will have a soda blaster and a cabinet that I can use to clean the baffles. In the meantime, it's hot, soapy water, FrogLube, and a tooth brush.
