This followed me home yesterday, wife wouldn’t let me leave it. She said it sounded too nice.

Epiphone Ltd Edition (2018) Hummingbird Performer Pro, Tobacco Sunburst.

It sounds and plays way better than it should for the price point. I’ll never be able to afford a Gibson version of anything I like, but this plays well enough I’m not too pissy about it.

While I’m being poor somewhere else, y’all should post some real guitars for me to drool over.

Very nice, I have a buddy who has been involved in the Seattle music scene since bout 1980. He has old strats and a couple old esquires. I remember when he was buying them in the early eighties I thought he was nuts. Lol!

Luckily, my best friends dad has his own woodshop and likes to do projects, and I have a lot of the tools already that I use in knifemaking. I don’t even want to think about how much I have invested in tools, I feel your pain lol.

You can get bodies routed any way you want, necks already fretted with whatever frets you want, replica vintage hardware, etc. A Strat just basically bolts together. The biggest job is applying the finish, and you can even get that already done if you want.

I figured I’d do mostly everything myself, I’m fortunate to have access to the stuff to do it. I’ll have to look into a couple things, but it’s been on my mind. Even glued in neck guitars aren’t really that crazy to do. The biggest hurdle to making things is typically yourself, when I stopped worrying about the difficulty and just decided to do it, things got interesting. Hell, I taught myself to color case harden and fabricated everything to do it. The difficulty is half the fun for me.

Granddaughter and Grandson own them, including my own old (now her...) 1964 Goya 12-string Dreadnought (Bought new with my first Outta HS paycheck from Ma Bell), which I haven't played in decades.

Granddaughter got a new all white Eric Clapton Signature Strat (and case) for her Birthday this October.

I have 3 of them, but I love guitars and amps. It’s been a passion since I got my first one.

I’d love to see a picture of that Goya! I need to get my own 12 string, had a cheap one years back that ripped itself apart in Arizona. Many have come and gone, I’m just glad to be back to it.

Acoustic guitars are like small children; hold them warmly and gently, play with them frequently and they will respond and open up. I prefers D'addario EJ 16's tuned to E flat, the lower string tension is better for old beat up hands. Guitar stands are cool but store it it's case.

That happened to me. I was in a store circa 1990? and there was this Whale Blue Paul Reed Custom with a one piece top and bird inlays. $1500 then but it stuck to my hand so out came the Amex card. My other favorite was a Martin HD 28. What a machine. They both got stolen in a B&E along with a Fender Blackface Super Reverb and a Harry Kolbe modded Marshall 100 watt. At least the insurance paid for them. Turns out the PRS had gotten very collectible and I got $4500 for it. The [photo below is close but no one piece top. Mine was prettier.

Made me so sick I just never bought any more. Got into high end audio and bought more ammo...and guns.

Don’t have a case for it yet. Didn’t come with one. The stand is out of necessity for the time being.

I prefer D’addarios as well and also prefer to play E flat, although I do like to mess around with open tunings and stuff. Slides are fun. I’ve been after a coricidin bottle since I was 16, no luck yet.

Speaking of amps, my wife went and put a 100% original down to the RCA tubes 1969 Silverface Bassman on layaway for our wedding anniversary this month. Below about 4-4.5, sound is okay at best. At 4.5 and up, it’s a whole other animal. Brought my maple top Les Paul down there to play, and the sustain was just ridiculous. Really kind of shocked the hell out of me. 6 years in, she had paid attention to that somewhere along the line that I wanted a 60’s Fender tube head, specifically a Bassman. The look on my face had to have been one of pure dumbness.

That’s much appreciated advice, one of the tubes is started to phase in and out a hair every now and then so I think I’m going to find some replacement tubes and store the originals while they’re still working. Just have them swap them while it’s there.

Nice! I always liked the way those play, especially for metal. I had a pretty enduring drop C phase, even tried to get a Destroyer to hold drop B without buzzing like a hive of bees. I’ll check out the podcast.

There's nothing like the sound of pedal steel, and that’s one of my favorite sounding combos as well. I’ll listen Dwight Yoakam albums for days, especially when I’m working. I’m not sure if Pete Anderson used that combo, but it sure sounds like it on the early records.

Looks like mine. I bought a 94 PRS Custom 10 top, in whale blue, with the bird MOP inlay. I paid $1762 after tax... then I left for the Army and didn't come home for three years so it sat. I sold my cherry red Ibanez SF470 to a buddy that later pawned it. IT worked out OK because it wound up with a mutual friend in a local band that needed a non-broken guitar.

Someday I'll pick up a full Marshall cabinet then every Sunday morning the Star spangled Banner will resound for all to hear! Then I'll call the window repair guy!

Awesome stuff! I had a Breedlove that I loved the Elixr strings on, such a warm and silky tone.

I know what you mean about actively listening, my wife is a cellist and like you said music has always been a huge part of our lives too.

Thats a real beauty. I had one and truly regret ever selling it. Fender amps were always my favorite. For a while I had a Ssuper Six Reverb. 100 watts and 6 -10' blue back speakers. Still Alnico magnets in those days.

That trade was years in the making. Two guitars and cash made it possible. It will be with me until I die. Hopefully it will stay in family for generations to come.

Shit you could have traded a kidney, 3 horses and 79 blankets and it’d be worth it. If you put it in a living trust and have an attorney write it up to where it can’t be sold, then you can have some more peace of mind about it staying in the family. That’s what I’m gonna do with everything I have that’s really important to me like that.

I have a single Zoom G3n and then go into an Apogee converter to my computer, from there, I have a warehouse of amps and effects

The thing about Stratosphere is the parts are all takedowns from new guitars. The two I pieced together;

MIM bodies. The Tele is a Baja body and guts w/ a '72 Thinline neck. It has a 7 1/2" radius, no low E string, and is tuned in open G for Stones and Black Crowes. I call it Keef.

The Strat has MojoTone pickups and sports an American Special neck w/ 70's headstock.

I tried that with a cheaper Focusrite interface. It came with a protools app. Through headphones it sounds pretty good. I still prefer a tube amp shaking the floor.

Chris Duarte was in town years ago and agreed to an acoustic show at the last minute. I offered this guitar for him to use. I have a recording of the show around here somewhere.

One of my best friends started taking guitar lessons in the early 1960’s. His dad picked him up a used one at a yard sale In Shreveport Louisiana . He told him to get serious because he paid $ 25.00 for it. Turns out it was/is a Martin 0018 circa 1930’ish. !! Needless to say he stole it , figuratively speaking. He still has it , plays it often.

As much as I enjoy the passion I have for precision rifle shooting, my first love will always be the guitar/music.
