Anyone else like watching hawks hunting ?

I saw this guy out the bathroom window. I can't believe he(?) stayed around for 5+ minutes while he finished off the mocking bird and let me get a lot of photos. I was about 20 ft away and he was very unconcerned about me taking the pictures.

Wish I knew if there was something I could do to draw them to to ranch. Maybe they would kill some of the gophers.

It's a job to be precise about the size from the pics, but I think it is a he, a male Coopers Hawk in his first moult. He was a year old when you took the photos.

We have a variety of raptors. Some big red tails flying overhead. I found this one eating along the driveway and it flew up onto my hood for a better look. We also have sharp shins although you usually only see the clump of feathers after they pick a bird off the feeder.

Fantastic thread. And, I too have learned about eleventy more things that I didn't know. One of which is that 'artificial insemination' of "feathered friends" is an actual thing.

But yeah, raptors are cool, and is another thing that I've always dreamt that I'll do in my next life. The rich one.

Hunt, that is. Unlike others here who have a 'feather boa' collection, I have no interest in 'doing' a raptor. HA.
