Ok Hiders....

I have an Elk hunt in 2021 and want to start load dev. I've narrowed it down to Barnes 175 lrx or 190 lrx. Platform is 300WM. I have H1000, H4831, and H4350 powders. Match chamber with long throat, BDL floor plate. My question ... has anyone found either bullet easier or harder to find a tuned load for??? Or either bullet more finicky on seating depth? Barrel is 25" 10 twist. Max distance is 600 ish yards depending on winds.

Thanks,

Will

I've used the 175 LRX in my Tikka 300, along with H4831sc. Great results. The heavier bullets ie 190 or 200 don't seem to group as well due to my 1:11 twist. H4831 is a very underrated powder.

No problem finding a load for either. H4831SC for the 175 and H1000 for the 190. Both like 0.020-0.030” jump

I'm limited by mag length in my tikka.

I'm limited by mag length in my Tikka (3.34").
I had a very well known Alberta gunsmith tell me that, in my Tikka, neck tension and runout are more important than seating depth. So i never wasted my money on a new bottom metal. 190gr bullet is biggest i will shoot out of my Tikka due to twist rate..... I'll never understand why they have stuck with 1:11 twist

Update....

I found a great load with the 175 LRX over 74 grains of H4831sc. 2975 fps with ok SD and ES, but prints 1/2 moa. My hunt was pushed back to 2022.
