Range Report Applied Ballistics Mobile App

I was not aware of that.
What are the problems with the app?

Within this thread there are a few things mentioned that have not been Answered and on Google Play store there seems to be a few unhappy people making claims about the Lack of responce from the developers along with A lack of updates, missing features, I have had this App on my wish list for about 6 months or more waiting to see if anyone was going to reply or doing anything about it But instead the App is now built in to a Tool.

I don't know if the 2 things aren't exclusive of one another.
I am sure Kestral had their people working on adapting the software.
Bryan is on this thread so if you post your issue specifically he may get on a solution.

Well Bryan is Dare I say it, A Genious

That app has been collecting dust over at the play store and at $30.00 a pop I would have thought it would of been finished long ago and flying off the shelf.

I have AB on my Motorola smart phone and it works great. But I like the idea of redundant systems in case I lose the phone or it breaks in hunting camp. I wanted a 7 inch tablet to load the program, but I've now purchased two, both with android 4.0 or better, and wifi, and AB will NOT load on either. I keep getting a message about the device being incompatible or nonexistent. Has anyone found a tablet that will load AB?

I'm sorry to hear that, But this has been the problem all along as stated by people on google Play store, Now dont get me wrong because I love Kestrel Products but they now have the working product and those who have bought the App got nothing, I for one will not be buying the 4500 AB for a simple reason why should I buy another kestrel costing over $600 in the US and nearly twice that over here when I can use my 4000nv and an App for 10 = $30 and save over $570, The Horus version is going to be just as Accurite for 95-98% of shooters and the only people that will see any improvement will be the 2% and it will only take 0.5mph drop or increase in the wind and your back to where you started,

We all are looking for a Quick fix solution in these Apps hopeing they are going to give us a Magic Bullet well they are not and they never will, Like you I am running my apps on 2 Android phones and a Nexus 7" tablet and sometimes I get 2 or 3 updates a week, sometimes I get none and another thing I dont like about some of these Apps is they show the Drop charts upside down as in why the heck do I need to see what the Bullet is doing Last at the top of the screen when I need to see how it progresses towards its Target, You would'nt read a book backwards so why are the charts backwards???

Good Luck with your problem/Apps I hope it works out for you,

John

Guys,

Recognizing there has been a lack of support for this app, we've assigned someone to engage the hide and provide some much needed assistance.

Chuck Foote is Applied Ballistics' digital media specialist. He's a relatively new shooter (F-TR, Michigan team member) and college student currently finishing a degree in biometric security.

His roles on the Hide will be mainly in support of the AB Mobile app including:
1) Collecting requests for and actually drafting new reticles for addition to the app.
2) Collecting requests for new bullets to be added to the bullet BC library and custom drag curve library.
3) Collecting bug reports, both general and device specific.

He'll provide direct support inline where possible, but more advanced requests will be passed up to either the app developer or myself.

Hopefully with Chuck helping out, we'll be able to respond more quickly and make this app better for everyone.

Chuck's email is:
[email protected]

Feel free to contact him for assistance with AB Mobile or comment directly in related threads.

Hey guys!

As Brian mentioned above, I will be helping out with some much needed customer support with the AB mobile app. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the app you can pm me or email me at [email protected]. I will also be checking threads relating to the AB mobile app so if you just want to leave a comment on here that's alright too. Looking forward to helping everyone out!

Thanks,
Chuck

Thankyou Bryan for the good news and the update, as I said I have been busting a Gut to buy this App and now with Chucks help maybe now I will get to use it,

Good stuff!
We gonna see an iphone app too?

The iphone app is currently in development. Although I can't give you an exact date when it will be ready to go live, I can promise you we are working on making it available as fast as we can. I know a lot of you guys have been looking forward to it's release for quite some time so thanks for your patience.

Chuck, any plans for a windows 8 based program. Would like like to put this Surface Pro to work.

No plans for a windows based version of the mobile app. If you have previously purchased Bryan's book Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting you can load the ballistics solver program from the included CD onto your tablet. It might not be the ideal solution you're looking for but it's an option!

Hi Brayan,
I'm also waiting to hear your good news for iPhone AB, I bought Galaxy Note II only to use AB app on it, But I feel much more comfortable if I can also use it on my iPhone, I'm very happy with Shooter app already, but after I bought my Night-force riflescope AB app seams much more interesting than shooter refer to Reticle data on AB.
I wish AB will be available soon for iPhone too.
I just signed up on this forum and happy to write my first post seconds after the registration.
I wish I can learn more from you guys here.
Cheers!

As soon as I have more information on the progress of the iPhone app I will make an announcement. For now all I can say is that it is in development and we have plans to release it in the near future. And welcome to the forum! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, either in this thread or by email. My email address is [email protected]

Does the truing feature account for velocity and a change in BC (ie: a falling BC)? I ask because some of my loads with non VLD bullets will give strange results in a calculator that just adjusts for MV, resulting in bad wind calls.

My first post with a question about the AB App and a comment: In the descriptions for the ammo setup under "Zero Data" you can adjust your zero height if the adjustment is less than 1 click. Can this also be used to adjust my zero when I put on a suppressor? I am currently zeroed without the suppressor and when I put it on I have to come up 8 clicks. Is it meant to be used this way? Comment: Not sure if its a bug or if I'm doing it wrong but if I enter a Zero Height (-3.15in/8 clicks), update the profile and sync it, that info doesn't carry over to other devices when I sync them.
Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering that myself I was told that the next update will have the swfa scope in it

As I told Canuck257 I don't have a date yet but it will be in the near future. The SWFA reticle is scheduled to be in the next update along with many other popular reticles that you guys have requested. If there are more reticles you guys are interested in seeing there still may be time for me to get them finished and handed off to Sean. Keep the requests coming in!

Graph does not work

Its a nice app... I've been using 'shooter' for a long time so very familiar with this.

Only one issue I have seen is the graph tab does not work if you select trajectory. There is no data displayed in the graph. Which is odd as this works fine in Shooter so I would assume the code is pretty much identical (being effectively the same program just with reticule info added to this app)

Regards

Great news everyone! The Applied Ballistics Mobile update for Android is now live! This update includes new reticles, various bug fixes, and the introduction of the ActionBar. New reticles include the Gen 2 XR, Leupold Tactical Milling, Nightforce MOAR, Schmidt Bender P4L, Sightron LRMOA 2, SWFA Mil-Quad, USO Gap, and 1st and 2nd focal planes of the Vortex Viper PST EBR-1. Keep those requests coming in!

I have a question about the software on the AB Kestrel and the integration with the app. I must say I am overwhelmed by all of this I don't own either of the apps or a kestrel yet, I'm still doing the "old fashioned" method of going to jbmballistics and inputing my known values such as current/estimated weather conditions, altitude, and MV.

Is there a purpose to buying shooter/AB for iphone? and a bluetooth kestrel? Whats the point of the BT AB and the shooter app combined on an iphone?

If you have the applied ballistics kestrel then you do not need the phone app.

If you have a Bluetooth kestrel (non AB) then it will sync the wind value to the phone app. At least that's how it works on android

I have just discovered a problem with my software running on a Nexus tablet. When I open the Ballistic Calibration screen, the keyboard appears as does an input line under Range 1. However, the keyboard does not work inputting data onto the input line. If I persist an error window appears telling me that the software has stopped working. Suggestions please?

I passed the problem on to Bryan and Sean. We'll see if we can figure out what might be causing this issue.

If anyone is having trouble seeing the numbers they input in the ballistic calibration screen follow these instructions and see if it helps with the problem. Hit the menu button from the first screen when opening up the app. Select Preferences. Under preferences select Color Scheme. Change the color scheme from Day to Night. Hopefully this helps!

That works for me Chuck but these old eyes don't like the night screen too well!! Hopefully you will get the resolved in time?

Is this with the Nexus 7? I am looking into buying a tablet in a couple weeks and was looking at buying that tablet.
