Precision Rifle Gear Arcteryx is dead to me

FWIW to this point they only make things in China that are made better in China. Certain textile and apparel mfg methods have settled in certain places:

Wovens are in India and Bangladesh, with a secondary hub in Central America

Bags and luggage are PI and Vietnam

Gloves are Vietnam and Sri Lanka

Über-technical welded and bonded garments are in China, and emerging in VN and Korea to avoid duties but they’re Chinese run.

...and so on and so forth...

If you want the best waterproof breathable state of the art jacket, you’re not stabbing yourself going commie. Only the commies can do that. They’re the ONLY ones who can meet the spec.

The US sucks at technical apparel, and nobody wants to invest $1BN in infrastructure to have the capability when you have to pay people min. $17 an hour and they still don’t show up half the time.

Consumers damn sure don’t want to pay the cost to offset it.

Show of hands: how many people would pay $1700 for an Arcteryx Alpha was made in the USA?

To your point, the Beyond Clothing custom jacket I bought that was hand made in Eugene, OR was a pile of trash and the owner of the company didn't care when I showed him. On the other hand Rab, Mountain-Equipment, and Arc fit correctly and are just right from the beginning. I'm not crazy about their politics but I've been shit on by the companies that claim to share my same values. In other words, buy the product, not the story.

It's true most would never pay the prices required to get US made for goods. There was an old post on Eberlestock packs way back they did a US based run for a contract, had some of the gear at SHOT, and were asked if they were going to sell to consumers, the answer was basically no, because a $400 pack made in Vietnam was a $1000+ pack made in the USA and no one would pay it.

Our politicians and trade practices (tariffs etc.) have basically sold out the ability of US manufacturing to stay competitive the last 3-4 decades. The reality is most other country's trade laws ensure their domestic manufacturing and such are protected. We did the exact opposite and sold it all out for max corporate profits, such is the way of capitalism after all. It's gone on so long now it's basically no longer feasible to reverse it, or at best it would take decades of painful consumer prices, and corporations accepting lower profits to rebuild American manufacturing to get back on even footing. In other words, never going to happen.

So how do I buy a top end Kifaru pack for $500?

People and their bullshit to support their companies greed.

Voormi wool sweaters are about 150-$200. Some a bit higher based on heaver weights. Made in CO. with US wool. No BS

Look at Darn Tough socks, Farm to Feet socks, Point 6 socks. All US made. Dang near the same price as foreign made Smartwool

Good points. Maybe the companies you mentioned are okay making less profit than the others?

Are you sure it’ll be made in China? Looking at my pretty darn new Alpha SV jacket right now and the label says “Made in Canada” (they’re a Canadian brand, not US).

And for any who don’t know the brand, they focus on skiing/snowboarding, rock climbing, mountaineering, and other similar sports, but many of their products make for excellent hunting gear because of the solid features and unparalleled weather resistance + durability. I’ve tried others in that price tier and keep coming back home to Arc’Teryx.

You left out Arc'Teryx's LEAF line (Law Enforcement & Armed Forces) ... that's probably more what many here would be interested in ... and why many of us are bummed by this news.

And yet you still have a computer and cell phone and tv..... probably drive a honda.... if the product stays the same quality why compromise? Its not like you can get away with buying made in USA only. Although made in the US companies get my buisness when i can, ive given up on thinking i can get that out of my life altogether. We live in a world where made in and assembled in are interchangeable, whats the point of the added stress in my opinion.
I buy Made in USA first, then Made anywhere but China...

Leaf stuff is good if initially pricey.

Ive had my present Arc jacket for close to or more than twenty years....it cost me $400 which I thought was really expensive but over twenty years?

It gets worn pretty regularly and has lasted this long.

I could justify buying a LEAF jacket for that length of service.

@308pirate - you probably have noticed that facts and logic mater to a few of these folks as much as they do to CNN.

An American made car by a Japanese owned company. I miss my old Hondas for running around in. Great cars
Kinda like the Tundra is the "most made in the USA truck"

Honda Accord
  • Assembled in Marysville, Ohio
  • With interior components manufactured all over the Midwest
  • With engines manufactured by Honda in Anna, Ohio
  • With transmissions manufactured (right down to the gears, valve bodies, and shafts) by Honda in Russel's Point, Ohio
  • With body panels and subframes made all over Ohio and the Midwest
A car more American that most with American names. Even the manual transmission Accords (with gearboxes made by Honda in India) have more domestic content than most "American" cars.

With GNC being purchased by the Chinese, I wonder if the DOD will still allow them to have a storefront in the military base exchanges...

Good thing the Chinese already have all of my info from the OPM attack. Now they’ll at least have my decade old sales history of Jack3D purchases 😂

What a shit show

Just checked my OTTE Gear rain jacket and soft shell ... both state US materials, but made in Vietnam ...

Damn good pieces of kit, though.

Still wish I could afford a Carinthia Softshell SF jacket:

Looks perfect for what we do - and I was put onto it by seeing the guy from Tier One wearing one - but at €264 ... it's a stretch.

And OpticsPlanet was recently blowing out the OTTE Gear Alpine Jacket in Ranger Green for only US$130 ... so I'm hoping that one goes the distance.

Don't forget to shit all over Columbia Sportswear's mess kit while you're at it. The dumb bitch that runs the place isn't any more pro 2A than the "dead bird" outfit........

I don't own any products from either company and I never will. Not even used. I'll spend my money on pro 2A vendors.

Judas freakn priest, this dufas! “Hey gun owners, bend over and always make sure to ALWAYS carry lube”......”It will cost you nothing”

It never fails to amaze me how gun owners will rationalize their own demise.......to thunderous applause.

“When corporations turn on us, buy more of their stuff! yuk, yuk, yuk”!

How fucking stupid do gun owners need to keep proving themselves to be?

Wait, wut??? I love Salomon
Dude, have you never looked at the tags on your Salomons?

You guy's seriously need to wake the fuck up. We've been fleeced and sold the fuck out for decades. Our medicines come from China, our consumer electronics come from overseas in general (mostly China), billions of pounds of clothing comes from China, India, etc.

Why? Because they bribe the fuck out of politicians in their own ways and subjugate their own people to the manufacturing slave labor gulags thanks to Amazon, WalMart, Harbor Freight Tools, Nike, and everything, everywhere else, etc, etc.

Our labor market in the US can't compete with slave labor. We're fucked. Just accept it. This whole "I ain't buying nothing except gall-dern USA made" thing is a futile effort.

Enjoy probably less than 10% of products that are no-shit, start-to-finish (raw materials to final product) made in USA.

Everyone is sucking the same cock, just using different techniques.

Oh, B T W, you can thank George dub-yuh Bush for allowing China into the World Trade Organization just after 9/11 while we were all distracted by the aftermath and GWOT (Global War On Terrorism), and Patriot Act.

So, yeah, we're fucked. Cat's outta the bag, and it ain't going back in.

He didn't say buy more of their stuff, he said "saturate social media" and "buy future weather gear from pro gun companies".

Having foreign investors, or buyers of the company is a long-con.

Profits of the company will flow over seas, which will be used to built new products, R&D, design, etc.. then the newly created product is made in the original factory.

The new product is designed for a foreign market, or at least have influence of it.

Many scientists, engineers, designers, even sponsored athletes miss out on employment because all the profit is over seas. Less jobs for those people involved, and only grunt work production.

Chyna is literally trying to turn US (and Australia) into Chyna, and then be the big boss as they own everything.
