Where I live? I've always said where I live, we could have a real life Hollywood Red Dawn scenario, invading Russians tanks on the main drag. And if me and my rag tag band of high school buddies fought back to save America, the only thing that would happen is the county/state would mount a full scale reaction force to arrest us and throw us in jail for the rest of our lives.
Is this where you think the real divide is? The real divide is between authoritarians on the left and the right standing across from those of us who won’t toe the line. To simplify it, government and those that support it and those that want no part of it.

No we dont need a shooting war, but we need to make punching people in the face legal again. I think if more people got punched in the face, it would do this country some good.

But what the politicians and outside forces are doing is turning identity politics up to 11. So that everybody has to have a hyphen. Everybody has to be from a tribe. Or special. Or identifying in some group.
The best way to destroy a nation is to Balkanize it. And instead of having us all be Americans in our melting pot make damn sure that everybody keeps some socia, cultural, national, or personal identity… and place is it above their being a citizen of the greatest nation ever.
Identity politics has gone on as long as politics has. And it’s a guaranteed way to divide and conquer.
That people still fall for it 4000 years later is kind of pathetic. But then again we are wired to be tribal. It’s just that it should be relatively easy to rewire ourselves to be part of the great tribe called Americans. And fuck everything and everyone else.

It's interesting, and not just a little "skewed", that your three "Yes, Likely, Possible" choices are demonstrably anti-left, and that none of them indicate any predisposition by the right to start the violence. Especially true since the events of Jan-6th are the first time in the history of our country that we were unable to execute a peaceful transfer of power. Not looking for a battle, just (probably inappropriately) exercising my centrist-moderate political leanings by pointing out that a survey that only considers the left side of the political spectrum as the catalyst and only possible causes that internal shooting starts, seems pretty one-sided.

I think its the duty of every American not to all ow this country to fall into an open civil war. We are not perfect but are stronger together.

If it does those in blue areas are in a rather precarious situation. When you look at any voting map you have highly concentrated dots of blue usually surrounded by hundreds of miles of red. The areas in red provide food, manufacturing, and water and the blue areas provide customer service, tech support, and banking. Usually all these blue dots have 2 to 4 major arteries in and out. Just saying if it came down to it shut down the I35’s(or which ever interstate feeds the city) and they are deep in the hurt locker, I can live without tech support and Amazon for a long time. Everything they need? Think Stalingrad.

Lets just say for a second that there was a national civil war that kicked off. How would a person visually identify their enemy? Are we (as a nation) going to start wearing uniforms, or patches, or some other visual indication of which "side" we're on? The civil war of the 1860's was states raising militas, and engaged in battle on battlefields, and they were organized, most wore uniforms, and it was generally pretty clear who you were suppose to kill. Would that occur in the states now? I don't think it would. I don't know what it would look like, and I don't know what would start it off. I just don't think it's really something that's likely to occur on a national scale. At best, it'll be small regional conflicts, quickly shut down by federal police/military. The press propaganda machine will spin it, and you'll believe it because they will repeat the 'facts' until you believe them. I think it's only a fantasy of some folks, hoping for a period of national disobedience so they can take out some trash they know about free from the consequences of this world. I've been there, I get it, but I don't believe for a second we'll ever get there.

While I agree for the most part unless sanity returns we a heading towards what occurred in Yugoslavia in the 90’s. In the last 30 years of my life we have gone from slight grumblings at the dinner table or diner, to brawls at school board meetings. The left is now advocating for the overthrow of the Supreme Court and the shedding and rewriting of the constitution to fit their world view. This express to a confrontation is accelerating at a alarming rate. If you look at every revolution the last act that triggers the start is usually the least important of all the issues. The American revolution didn’t start because of a tax on tea, in and of itself that is a issue that would normally be just complaining at the bar, but it was the straw that broke the camel’s back, I do seriously wonder what’s the straw that will break this one.
There was a senator just prior to the civil war who said the discussion was silly, he pulled out a hanky and said all the blood from this conflict will be able to be cleaned up with this. When you have media commentators advocating for reeducation camps, denial of medical and financial services, and entering peoples homes to seize their personal property you are stoking the fire of rebellion and that’s where we already are, and as history teaches once at this point it doesn’t take a massive issue to start a conflict, but usually a very small one.
i think the far left junk is amplified exponentially by social media and msm, and as i walk around southern california, i see no evidence of widespread discontent with anything but prices. life goes on, oblivious to the outrage expressed by those obsessed with killing babies.

I learned something yesterday, we did not have an official national anthem until 1931 (or 1916 if exec order is treated as law). The pledge of allegiance was written in 1892. We didn’t have an official pledge or anthem to unite us for over half of our life as a country.
Looking at where we’ve come from, our success has happened when states had more power so people could choose to live in a state where the finer points of politics were in line with their beliefs.
So what united us? Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that was rooted in a society with the underpinning of morality (as given by God). The particulars will always be different but what makes us great is the unity around the liberty given to each individual
If you notice any Trump rally, the majority of his supporters are boomers, the last patriotic generation raised by the Greatest Generation. Well, I have two sons who are both in their early 30's and both are staunch 2A supporter's and are very aware of what's going on as are many of their friends (who I know). The deal is, they all work hard, have good jobs and love America. So don't write off all the up and coming.
As for me, yeah, I'm a boomer but keep in shape, follow AJ's rule and as far as cattle cars go.......well let's just say I have a plan.
