Assist in identifying mauser action

I bought this mauser action at a gun show a few years ago for cheap. Its a small ring but I have not been able to ID what it is beyond that. Any one know of a mauser expert in the lower lousiana area that could help ID and rebarrel it? Also looking for suggestions on what caliber to rebarrel it too. It has no markings beside what I took pictures of.

This is a mixmaster of parts and non matching serial numbers - looks like a 95 Spanish Mauser small ring. Be very careful what you build on this. Originally 7 x 57. My recommendation is to sell and buy a 98 Action or a commerical action that has more safety features.

I would. But I only paid 30 bucks for for it. So I am trying to figure out if there is a lower pressure round than the 7x57 that I could get it rebarreled in.

250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 6.5 x 55 all with CIP's less than 7 x 57. It's rarely a bargain to take a receiver like this and start a rebarreling, drill and tap for scope mounts, adjustable trigger etc. Lots of good barreled actions out there that will cost you a whole lot less and be much safer.

That is a scrubbed Spanish 1893 action. Should have a squared bottomed bolt face.

Numrich has reasonably priced small ring Mauser barrels.

If I were to rebarrel it in something other than 7x57 I'd do the 257 Roberts as it's based on that case. probably have fewer issues with feed geometry.

You might also consider the Rhineland Arms 7.62x39 conversion kit.

Rhineland arms makes a couple caliber conversions. Make it a bolt action 9mm and blast away.

You could rebarrel for 7x57 and do your own loading. Mild loads will do for bush/scrub hunting. It is only when you load for 500-1,000 yard ballistics that you get into the higher pressures.
If you want to load for long range, get a decent 98 action.

It will not look cheap when you build on it.
Get a better action. This one lacks basic safety features of a 98 Mauser. It has no safety lug, handles escaping poorly and the striker lacks the indexing feature that keeps it from firing when not fully closed.
