Barnes TTSX vs Nosler Accubond

i bought full equipment for reloading and now all i need is to settle on a bullet. i own a browning a-bolt 300. wsm and will be firing 180 grain bullet. Normally this gun will be taken on trips for Moose, black bear, whitetail, and caribou. Shots will be close and long range with most of my shots being between 75-350 yards. I have had closer shots, 55 yards and longer shooting opportunities 550 yards. Which bullet will perform better? which one do you suggest.

This year i am doing a combination elk and whitetail hunt down in Montana. I talked to the guy whos property we will be hunting and he mentioned that most shots will be longer. I have practiced out to 300 and 400 yards and have had fantastic results with both ranges. 2.5 " group at 300 yards was my best and 4" was my worst.

For Moose, elk, caribou, black bear and deer would you use a 180 grain nosler accubond or 180 grain barnes ttsx. I like the BC of the Accubond better.

i have used 180 grain accubonds through my A-bolt 300 win. mag. on deer out to about 250 or so. it wotks just fine! one shot kills.

i have 168gr ttsx bullets loaded that i had a couple good groups. under an inch at 100 yards but have not yet taken an animal with that bullet. though i wouldnt use 168gr bullets to hunt anyways. so with what i have used and know, id stick with the accubonds.

hornady 180gr SSTs are also pretty good. i took a blesbok at 320 yards last year as well as a few other animals at ranges between 250 and 300 yards. all with one shot kills. then again, shot placement is everything!

I shot a buck at 210 yards with a 168 TTSX from my 300 WSM this past hunting season and that bullet was devestating. The chest cavity was all liquid. And they shoot about 0.5"-0.75" from a stock 700. I highly recommend the TTSX!

I like Accubonds. I have taken deer with TSXs and they worked well. The TSX fouls your barrel with copper and lots of it.

I have 13 deer and hogs at last count using Accubonds, no issues at all, they shoot well from my rifles and don't seem to be picky with regards to seating depth. .270WSM and .308Win. 140s and 150s. Nosler makes a good product.

BTW the Accubonds are MUCH cheaper.

Their are a couple of things to consider with the Accubonds.

1. Inexpensive compared to the Barnes.

2. Better/higher BC.

3. 180 Ballistic Tip = great for cheaper practice as it it's identical except for lack of bonded lead. If you notice any difference between the two it will be minimal in nature and you can tweak you zero just before your hunt.

You really need to try them both in YOUR gun. I've had both bullets and found some rifles shoot one for crap, and the other great, and the next rifle was opposite.

Both should perform well on game, but, I think the Barnes is a little better.

I have loaded a lot of 130ttsx and 168ttsx bullets for .308, 300saum, and 300wm. I have never had the copper fouling problem in any of the rifles. Even the 130ttsx in 300wm are devastating on white tail. We have used the 168ttsx in the saums, and wm and they worked great, farthest shot was 310yds, closest was 80yds. We have the saum and wm loaded so they are moving around 3300fps on average. The ttsx bullet is very accurate for a hunting bullet. We load the 130ttsx bullets so they are moving at 3000fps out of the .308 and they work great, it is now my favorite white tail load.

I think either of those bullets would work fine, but I would run a lighter TTSX. I would run a 150. You might be able to drive it close to 3300 fps in your rifle, but the 165 at 3100 would work too.

Take the extra velocity when running the X bullets, there will never be any lack of penetration with any bullet weight.

All I hunt with is Barnes, why would you want to inject lead into something you are going to eat...Took 3 deer with TTSX bullets last fall, 2with a .243, ad one with and 3006. All pass through shots, great tissue damage. Great bullets. My moose load is a 160 .284 TSX in a 7 STW, going 3100 never had to shoot anything twice. Got a medaium bear with that load, shot her under the chin the bullet travelled 22" up the spinal column as she was looking at me @ 100 yards. Shed 3 of the four petals and weighed 146.3 gr. after going through 22" of spinal column only one I have ever recovered. great bullet.
