I have a Mossberg Patriot 6.5 PRC that I have over 1000 Rounds on it and the groups have opened up allot in the last few months from less than .5 MOA to over 2 inches. I cleaned it good and ran bore scope down it and it looks like it is done and needs a new barrel but I want a more trained eye to look at it for me before I get a new barrel for it.

Maybe it'd help if it were clean?

Can't tell much looking at a dirty barrel.

I've got just over 1400 round on my 6.5 PRC using some pretty hot loads. It's still shooting OK, though it's not quite as good as before, though still at or just under .5 MOA.

Are you able to seat the bullets where you want to in relation to the lands? If the lands have eroded to the point that you are no longer able to do that, then the barrel needs attention.

You answered your own question on whether to replace the barrel with .5MOA to over 2MOA grouping. You have fire cracking in the throat, which in itself isn't automatically a red line indicator, but reverting back to your grouping statement. I say the barrel is done. How the barrel shoots always trumps how it looks in the borescope. You have two solid indicators the barrel is toast. This is a perfect opportunity to upgrade from that Mossberg barrel to a nice premium custom barrel. If possible, with your shooting program, slow your rate of fire to a round per minute and don't let the barrel get past "too hot to touch".

thank you and what I wanted confirmed. However mossberh will put a new barrel on for $200 but a gunsmith wants $750 and it’s my daughters gun so I’m looking at going to the mossberg barrel again
