I'm thinking that I need a 50cal bolt action with a mag. Call it the caliber completion project (223, 308, 338, now 50cal) (I also need a 6mmBR, but thats anther topic)
What do you guys think? Is the bushmaster worth a sh*t? The DTA is 5lbs lighter than the barrett, but a bit more dough. Other options? I don't want a single shot. Accuracy is important to me. I also like the idea of shooting the oddball ammo that I can get for the 50cal, like incendiary rounds.

So, opinions?

Re: barrett 95 or DTA (or bushy)

I ended up going with a Barrett M99A1, which is only a single shot. It can fire about as fast as a magazine fed gun, as you don't need to line the cartridge up with the chamber - just toss it in and go.

What really sold me was the build quality. It has the most buttery smooth action you'll ever lay your hands on. The interrupted thread design on the locking lugs is among the strongest too. Great factory trigger. Match barrel. And they'll shoot. One of these used to hold the 1000 yard record at 4.09 inches for a 5 shot group.

I sure liked the M95 too, and these were the final 2 guns on my list. I don't think you could go wrong with either one, but the M99 just felt a little more refined to me.

the M99 is Barrett's most accurate 50 Cal rifle.
the accurate AND economical choice is the MacMillan.

the 50 is VERY expensive to shoot accurately.

if accuracy is not an issue get a Barrett M82 (or M107).

While the M99 is arguably Barrett's most accurate 50, it's also relatively inexpensive at around 4K (minus optics).

A McMillan TAC-50 or Barrett M82 are twice that.

Hornady A-Max Match runs about 4.50 a shot. M2 Ball goes for about 3 bucks, which is mostly what I shoot.
