Looking for a new optic in near future thats short as possible but 18x on up.

Bushnells dont interest me so they are out.

Leupold
March thes are the only two off hand i can think of that are shorter but maybe you guys know of some others.

I want ZS on it and illumination if at all possible. Lower the lowest setting and higher the highest setting in short package the better.

What's wrong with the Bushnells? They're great scopes and made along side of a lot of other great scopes. Bushnell has been making lines of solid optics for years now ever since the Elite line came out, unfortunately they're still associated with the cheap shit scopes they also market.

I've played with the Leupold Mk6 and it was nice, very light, but I've got no experience with it outside of handling one off of a rifle. Other says they are good optics and I've considered one. I've shot a march and was not impressed personally and would not buy one. The NF ATACR is short for a 5-25, is illuminated and has zero stop but is SFP. You didn't list if FFP was mandatory so that may be in for you as well.

Just curious why is shortness critical? Im not questioning you, just want to know. If handiness is what youre after weight is always more of a concern to me as long as the optic isn't as long as a bat. The Bushnells are heavy, I can tell you that much.

I would like a short optic since its going on a 18-20" barreled rig. Id like FFP but not a deal breaker. I do want good glass though.

Not saying anything wrong with Bushnell they just ont interest me.

If you want good glass then the Bushnell is definitely as in totally out, I don't blame you. Maches are short and light.

As well if you want really excellent glass as in world class look at the Hensoldts, very short as in close to March, but they are pricy as in close to SnB.

Yep the March 3-24 is probably the best candidate. The scope as a whole is very well made with good action to all the controls. Not the brightest or best glass out there IMO, though still up towards the top. I bought mine to mount on a small precision 22rf, it's a good fit.

+++March

The S&B doesn't have much elevation travel (only 17 mil) while the March 3-24 has 28mil (100MOA). Plus the March low of 3x is lower than the S&B short's low of 5x.

Meanwhile the Leupold Mk 6 high end (18x) is not as high as the March (24x). Also, the Leupold will cost you an arm and leg to get illumination (add $1200).

As for the Hendsolt 4-16 FFP, not as much elevation, not as low low-end and definitely not as high high-end magnification. I'm not even sure if the new ones have zero stop, I know the old ones didn't.

I know that you said no Bushnells but I happen to be setting at the range letting my rifle cool off between groups and saw this thread.

This is the new ERS 3.5-21 with lock turrets, ZS ect. It is pretty compact but heavy.

No, that's what is on the Schmidt & Bender web site under "click value" for that scope in particular.

4-16x50 PM II/P

A manufacturer or their web designer has never made a mistake on specs before? Like I said, that is what is on the knob, not the actual internal travel. I have owned a several single turn and double turn S&B's in 3-12, 4-16, and 5-25 so I think I would know what they have. If you don't believe me feel free to PM Jerry R or call S&B'S USA.

I just traded away a 4-16x50, and it had 130 mrad clicks of full vertical travel. 13 mils is all there is in that scope. I've owned half a dozen S&B scopes as well, but it doesn't make me an expert on them. I tend to leave that to what I've actually done, and what the manufacturer has printed. I counted the clicks after I centered the reticle in a set of V-blocks because I was having an impossible time trying to zero the scope while it was mounted in a 20 MOA Near Mfg. Alpha Mount. As it turned out the scope didn't have the needed travel in the elevation turret to zero it even at 100 yards. I don't have any Badger rings or another set of 34mm rings to try so I sold the scope. It didn't have enough travel anyway.

I have a Swarovski Z6i brt scope on my JP LRP-07 and I love it. It will get me from point blank out to 600+ yards with no problem, and the best part is that it is ILLUMINATED and it is a true 1X scope which means it will double just like a RED DOT Scope. You get the best of all worlds, but if you are looking for a precision scope this is not the one.

That's funny because I put those scope on a OMOA base, established a zero and still had more than enough for the full use of the turret. This myth has gone back a long time because people don't know how to work a knob correctly. Like I said, PM or call Jerry yourself if you don't believe me.
