New Stag bolt gun. 60° prototype aiming for Tactical hunter crowd. They told me these prototypes are aluminum actions but they are working with magnesium also. Price point to be between $1500-$2000 MSRP. Shooting for summer launch with complete rifles first then components later. I liked this action better than the new Aero offering. Chassis felt very good and very similar to a Bravo.

I am having a debate with my 1960s self about using Aluminum for a receiver. They did it with the AR. Hmmmm. At least something new.
Does it take prefits? (SA stumbled on their bolt this way IMHO).

The other really cool surprise is the new Zermatt chassis. They said it will come in multiple colors and a straight grip (pictured) and a swept grip. Material clad on the sides is a laminate composite and it felt awesome. They said pricing will be premium market but not nailed down yet.

Little aside from many years ago...was working on an avionics acquisition program for the USAF and needed to visit and survey many different aircraft types including the A-7 at Vought in Ft Worth. Part of it was inspecting the instrument panel for a replacement cockpit instrument.
I described that the manf will be making jigs, adapters, etc to revise the cut out in the panel for the new instrument.
The Vought guy looked at me very funny and said..."you DO know that this instrument panel is made of magnesium?" !!!
I was shocked and asked him how they cut these panels for any cockpit mods...and he said, "we pull it out and it gets machined and drilled under oil"!!
I left wondering how A-7 pilots felt about flying in combat with a multi-hundred pound potential flare in the cockpit with them.

Last I heard it was a bit fragile as compared to your run of the mill 7075 forging, though.
Its only powdered Mg that really gets all flare-y. Ti has the same issue/feature.
But the April Fools joke potential of a magnesium barrel is potent.
I ran into this guy with an "engineering brain" building a rifle platform in a track suit at shot. Nice guy, grew up in Ukraine but lives in the south now. He was in the background hopping around one of those first few pictures on here.

Getting back to the subject at hand. I have lots and lots of experience shooting M-16’s with its aluminum receiver. Mine worked and never failed despite good cleaning equipment being non-existent outside of Chu Lai. (I was way outside of Chu Lai.) But
Given my preference, I like steer, steel receivers, steel bolts, steel barrels. Seen plenty of aluminum bike frames, even a few magnesium bike frames and of course the titanium bike frames and I ride carbon framed bikes. Our son owns a Magnesium chassis and it works fine, but given the choice,
I want my rifle’s receiver, bolt and barrel made from good ole US made carbon or stainless Steel!
(having seen a semi auto handgun’s slide literally break in half and fly past my son’s head, I also like my John Browning pattern handguns to have slides made of steel as well!)

Throw an old magnesium car rim in a bonfire for a show.
Aluminum/magnesium ARs still have a steel bolt that interfaces into a steel barrel extension. I wonder if it's just something like that? We already have ARs in 300wm so just having steel where needed and aluminum elsewhere is feasible.
Aluminum in actions isn’t new but they are usually sleeved with steel.

I highly doubt that the action is made from Aluminum or Magnesium. I think it is a more affordable version of the Aero Solus action, thus made from steel.

Damn! I was given a chance to go to SHOT this year and turned it down for multiple reasons.
Showed that meal to Memsab, and she said that she could eat on it for a week.

He didn't say he was on the job, but there was this concrete guy there bench pressing like 280 with him that had a bunch of cerillic notches in his bow staff- so I kinda caught that vibe you're talkin' bout...
Watched a video on YouTube about this rifle. Apparently the forend is as soft a wet noodle and was demonstrated on the video as such. So much flex, literally almost unusable
I tested the flex as well. It does move quite a bit but not enough to touch the barrel. Remember it’s a hunting rifle meant to hit a price point.
