So I am still new to the bolt action game. This is what I ran into today when I received my new bolt handle from tactical works. I took off the rear screw and took off my original factory handle and replaced it with this new handle and then put the screw back on. I then put it back into the receiver and now the bolt won't close(it's not even budging) It appears that maybe there is not enough clearance as you can see by the safety for the handle to close but I'm not sure. Here are some pics of what I got. And yes, everything is installed correctly. What steps should I take now?

it is on correctly. I found that if the screw is not really tight against the handle it will cycle. Once I screw it on tight (about 15-20ft lbs.) it will not cycle at all. I put the old one back on and of course it cycles like glass. I don't really want to force the new bolt to cycle as it might damage the chamber or lugs on the bolt.

the one i got i had to send back, most people say they have to get at it with a file. mine was terrible. clunked and rubbed all the way around its arc. it actually made my savage feel worse. it was so crappy it came off in 5 minutes and 4 cycles. i bitched and got them to drop the "restocking" fee and mailed it back for $2.50 not the $6 i paid. all in all, i wasnt happy. that is to say i was not pleased. AZ Precision will alter the factory one so you know it will work right.

I guess I will be sending mine back as well. I am not a machinist by any means but how is it that they can't make the dimensions the same as the stock handle and make it work right?I did notice that the new handle doesn't even sit as nice and flush as the factory handle. lesson learned.

Re: Bolt handle problem with 10FP

I'm not certain which bolt handle you got but I suspect it's the Sharpshooter Supply tactical one that Tactical Works carries from what I can see of your pictures. I just got one direct from SSS and it installed fine in my 1998 vintage 10FP. The lift is as smooth as with the factory handle although I later installed a thrust bearing based lift modification. http://www.vitaminpwww.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2147623
