Going to sound odd but I need a good pair of boots.... for pizza.

Between the 60 hour weeks on my feet making and delivering pizzas in NY (rain, mud, deep snow), I beat on boots pretty hard.

General labor boots I use some steel toed red wings that are at least 6 years old and take a beating. Good for nights I am in the shop all night, great for standing, but too heavy for running stairs delivering. So I switch to a duty boot for those nights.

The problem is that I wear out Magnum boots in 9-10 months, or I get about a year out of a pair of Bates. All of them suffer the same fate. General breaking down around the bend in the toes: cracking, dry rot, and separation of the upper from the sole.

So I am looking for any suggestions for a 6" or 8" boot that can take getting wet, comfy for standing, and will hold up. Prefer a flatter sole (nothing high heeled like a logger boot).

Re: Boots for standing/running

Just got a pair of Merells (sp?) a very comfortable boot. Waterproof.

Time will tell how they hold up, I'm hard on my shoes.

The guy at the merell store I went to said these shoes are guaranteed for life, if a shoelace breaks bring it in, if a sole wears out bring it in. He said about the only thing they won't cover is if the back of the shoe is destroyed from taking it on and off while leaving them tied.

Take that FWIW, me personally, I'm not going to hold my breath.

I got them because I've heard good things about them. My buddy would always wear them to work and when he was in Iraq and Afghanistan and he said they held up great for him.

I've worn a lot of different pairs of boots to include Oakleys, Merrells, Bates, Altima, Danner, Asolo, Garmont etc... IMHO I think the Danner Stryker is tough to beat. They're great on hard surfaces, the Gortex ones are waterproof and they hold up pretty well. I've done 12 mile ruck run/walks with them and never had a blister with good socks.

Lows Zephurs. Most comfortable boots I've owned for standing, running etc. Lightweight but very durable.

You can get them with or without Gortex.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked at Danners before, but never tried them. The Lowa and Merrells I have never heard of, I will give them (and the Danners) a look.

Re: Boots for standing/running

The Merrells or the Danner Strykers, like said above, are good boots. When I was in the Marines, the boots we had were like the old school combat boot and were not very comfy. The gear the military has now is better by a long shot. Go with the Strykers, I think they are like a tennis shoe feeling boot. Good ones.

Re: Boots for standing/running

If you want them to last get something with welt construction, that is a fully stitched down sole, glued on is lighter and cheaper but due to the enviroment and flexing it will almost always fail before welt construction. If your boots are polished not rough out, you must keep them conditioned, or they will crack/dryrot. Its a good idea to waterproof leather as well for longeviety but its a trade for foot health for some, as products applied to the outside to save the leather will not let the moisture inside out. You must also let your boots dry regularly, and not thru the application of high heat. Last examine the construction, any seam on and parrallel to a flex point will lkely fail before anything else. Brand is up to you, fit should really be the determining factor after overall construction.
