What is the difference in a sako extractor or mini 16 extractor? The rifle is a 300 RUM. Figure since the factory extractor is broke it would be a good time to upgrade. What would you guys recommend?

Elk hunt is mid October and I can't afford to have a failure I the field.

Both require machining to install. The m-16 style is held in the bolt with a pin, the bolt nose counterbore may reqire alteration as well as part of this conversion. The sako style is held in place with a spring and plunger, they have been known to come out in the event of a case head failure. You could always replace the factory extractor. I am assuming you have a 700 remmy

Any idea what made the extractor fail. My friends and I shoot RUMs and never had a bad one, I would put a new one in and go from there. All my rifles for the past 45 years have been Rem. and no extractor problems, might have got a bad one or not put in right. If you do change go with the M-16 style.
