Hey guys I bought a Winchester M70 Heavy Varmint in .308 awhile back that came with a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x scope. Is this considered a pretty good optic for a beginner?

I noticed the mount isn't picatanny but has rounded notches and is made by Ken Fowler. The rings have levers to tighten them down that have come loose before when shooting. Should I swap rings and what kind do yall suggest?

Thanks.

Try blue loctite on the levers that have come loose. If you can fix the problem without investing in new rings you can save money and keep the rifle's weight down.

If blue loctite fails I would buy a one piece 20MOA picatinny rail by EGW or Farrell and then the rings of your choice. I strongly recommend buying 30MMM rings with the plastic inserts that fit your 1 inch tube (Burris and others). Your next scope will most likely be a 30 MM main tube. That's a great scope to learn I would get some trigger time in before you upgrade. Hopefully that will allow you to figure out exactly what you need save up and buy one quality scope once. Otherwise you risk buying a string of compromise scopes while you figure out what YOU need/want.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I'll throw some blue loctite on the levers and get a lot more practice in. I'm also a big believer in buy once cry once.

The negatives to the Bushnell Elite 10x are:
Fixed parallax set to 100 yards; can be a big problem at less than 100 yards.
No zero-stop, but this can be fixed with some creativity.
MOA adjustments and Mil reticle......if you got one of the non-mil adjustment ones.

It's a pretty good scope, and a great scope for the price.
It has more than 80 MOA of vertical adjustment; you may wind up with more than 60MOA of "up" adjustment from a 100 yard zero with a 20 MOA base. Mine has 86 MOA of adjustment, less than the 100MOA advertised; but normal for this scope.
The optics are pretty good.
The adjustments are repeatable.

It's a $200.00 scope that delivers $200.00 worth of performance.
