Buy Action Only?

Ok, well i searched the web and couldnt find this although i woulda swore i have before..(When i wasnt looking for it)

Im planning on building an M40a1..ish..rifle..

Is there anywhere where i can purchase a <span style="font-weight: bold">Remington .308 Action ONLY? (Left Handed) </span>or barrel to..I thought ive seen where you could just buy the action..and bolt

some gunsmiths have access to them but probably wont sell you one to hold to for a build 5 months down the line. I would recommend the surgeon rsr for like 600 or just do what i did and buy a remington sps tactical they go for like 560-600

Thats kinda what i was thinkin...i saw RH actions..theyre like 400...might as well pay another 2 for the barrel.

What I did was I got a 700 hunting rifle used in 30.06 for 300.00, pulled the barrel off, junked the stock and rebarreled it in 308 for a M24.
Then I set it in a Choate Varmint (not sniper) stock and it is good to go. Stock was like 140.00. A new barrel job will run you about 400.00 with labor.
If you get lucky you might find a Rem 78 in 308 and open the barrel channel up a bit and make a poor mans M24. Then you could get by with just a barrel.

I believe Midway used to sell 700 actions, but not any more. That's were i remember seeing it.

check out the pawn shops in your area sometimes you can get a good deal. also local trading post papers. money is tight and im sure people will be selling around this time of the year.

Look for a 700 bdl in a 308 gun. Get a good buy on it and build your gun from there. Is the same thing. It would be a lot easier to do this than buy a Rem. action by itself. Some custom actions will only cost about 700. Close to the same money.

You will be hard pressed to find just an action. Try the pawn shops or just by the cheapest Rem 700 you can find and take the action. If you are looking to have it trued, etc., you may consider going with some of the custom actions out there. The price difference will not be that much.

If you are going to have it blueprinted, trued, or etc then take a look at the Lawton 7000. At GP price's it's probably as cheap or cheaper than a trued 700.

Talk to the guys at GAP. They won't sell just the action, but they will put together a barreled action built on a new 700 action. That way you don't have to buy a whole gun and a toss the stock and barrel to just get a used action.

I wonder if they are still using all the receivers they bought from Brownells when they had a close out sell on them.

One minute they had a bunch for sale at a great price, and the next minute GAP had them all.

Your problem is you want a left hand action

Left hand bolt is not a problem when it comes to custom actions.
