ok maybe not exactly but same principle
<span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-size: 14pt">How many Remington 700 AAC-SDs are on this site with a B&C stock?</span></span>
probably a lot more than i can count.
people don't want to go to the range and see someone sitting next to them shooting the same exact gun every single time.
so people pain their rifles to express something called individuality. if i saw a remington 700 at the range i most likely would just go "oh cool another remy". if i see one with a nice paint job or some custom touches i take a second look.
also is helps against the elements as some have already mentioned. as far as a "wanna be" goes. does anyone really have the need to shoot out to 1000 yards. are they a "wanna be" for doing so. i have met many civilian shooters who can out shoot more than a few of the snipers i knew while i was in the marines.
being a sniper isn't all about shooting. its about a lot more than that and the civilians I've net that can shoot most likely wouldn't be able to handle the stress of combat much less the stress of being a sniper. since i am a veteran but wasn't a sniper does it make me a "wanna be" for painting my rifle even though i painted my M4 with Krylon on my last 2 deployments to iraq. i didn't know paint alone made you any more special on the battlefield except for concealment and protection purposes.
anyway people are people. i see little need in spending time caring about what others are doing unless i see it as a threat to my family or myself.
