Hi, im still in the process of buying a new scope for my Remi, and want to know if the Vortex can the handle recoil of the .300 WM/ and recommendations for good one around $1500. a variable FFP with milrad turrets and recticles, upto 12X. used for long range and roo, pigs, goats. anywhere from 200-1200m

Yes....and it'll have more then enough adjustment for your needs. If you can handle a couple hundred more get the razor, it's twice the scope the pst is. In means of adjustment

Yes...it will hold up just fine and should serve you well for your intended purposes.

I'm not sure what the Vortex PST scopes are running down under these days (except for the Razor line, all can be had stateside for <$1,000), but for as much as $1500, that gets you into various other high-quality options here in the states (if you have other options you are thinking about, we can all certainly chime in on them versus the Vortex PST lineup). For 200m and out, its your call on magnification (highly subjective in terms of preferences here), but with the size targets you'll be using the scope on and the fact you'll be using it for hunting and perhaps in less than ideal light/mirage/etc. conditions, I'd probably opt for the 4-16x so you can dial down when conditions warrant and still have plenty of juice for those longer shots at the max end of your capable range/skill.

As for the roos...its ok to do it "just for fun" (God knows it is)...just make sure its on the up-and-up too! ;) Good luck with your selection and setting up your rifle...sounds like you've got a winner!

Roos are protected here now, can only be shot for control purposes on farms etc and only a certain amount can be shot depending on the numbers per area.you can't even take road kill to use as yabbie bait or dog food. big fines and loss of equipment and licence in some cases.

The vortex pst is a great scope and will Handle the recoil no problem. The only downside to that scope is the limited elevation adjustment compared to other high end scopes.

Yes, this is true! I have mine mounted on a 20moa rail and I have a total of 48.5 moa of elevation left. This requires that I still must hold over at longer distances.

The so-called "limited" internal adjustment range of the higher magnification PST scopes is a bit overstated for a 300WM with a proper bullet selected.

Assuming a 20MOA canted rail, with the 4-16x, you have roughly (assuming you can get zeroed without using up too much adjustment) 52-55MOA leftover (estimated)...with the 6-24x, roughly 48-50MOA leftover (estimated).

With a 300WM using decent bullets suited for both LR performance and taking down the animals the OP is talking about (a 208gr A-MAX for example isn't a bad choice)...that is MORE than sufficient to get out to and beyond the 1200m range the OP is talking about reaching out to with the internal adjustments (~40-42MOA needed depending on the velocity you are pushing).

Do yourself a favor and put a muzzle brake on the rifle. Your accuracy will improve as you will finally be able to slowly squeeze the trigger instead of tensing up, gritting your teeth and jerking the trigger. You will also be able to watch your shots since your eyes won't be closed and knocked out of the scope. A 300 win mag isn't much fun to shoot without a brake. I had a heavy Remington Sendero and I couldn't shoot it very well before I put a brake on it. It was frustrating. Now its like shooting a .270.

Yes, i have an AI muzzle brake and its so awesome, my Ruger 243 kicks more than my .300.
ORD: i tend to use 180gr as it has a good MV over 3000f/s and its all thats needed here for goats, pigs and roos, unless shooting in Northern territory at buffalo, then i would need an 84mm CarlGulstaf LOL. And yes , i have a 20MOA canted rail already on it. Need to find some a good uni mount for my new scope aswell as i sold the nightforce one with my Leupold scope. Most uni mounts these days are aluminium and i require steel to be able to handle the recoil. any way, ill keep looking.
cheers for your points ORD. Bonza mate.

You won't go wrong with the Vortex PST. You can find the 4-16 model for less than $900 (the second focal plane is usually under 700). The optics are great, and considering the price it just adds even bigger "wow" factor. Vortex also stands behind their products with a fully transferable lifetime warranty. So even if the scope can't stand up against the 300 win mag (it will stand up and perform without a doubt) you could always get it repaired/replaced.

While you were researching this did you happen to find any in stock with the first focal plane? I've been having trouble finding it in stock anywhere.

The guy shooting next to me with a .338 trashed a PST rather quickly one evening...checked everything. Yep, scope don't hold zero after a few shots. Of course, this is most likely an exception....but his is on its way to Vortex.
