OK, i have to vent. [begin_rant] I am selling a set of OEM wheels and tires from my 2011 Range Rover Sport. They were taken off when the vehicle was brand new so they are essentially new in perfect condition. To buy the wheels from Land Rover you are looking at around $3200. The tires are $450 per tire (very good Michellin 4x4 tires). So, essentially $5000 to buy new. I have them on eBay for $1600 for the wheels and tires. I am getting tons of emails asking if i would sell for $1200 to $1300. I tell everyone that I would be willing to split the difference at $1400. I now have three guys haggling over $100. Mind you, these are $5000 wheels and tires for a $80,000 vehicle. Really? Understood, they are probably saying the same thing: "this guy is worried about a $100?" but to me, its the principle. Don't know how old you are but there was a time when floating checks for things put a real bad taste in the mouth. So when someone used cash it meant no papertrail, no tax, no waiting for checks to clear, no credit card service charge, and you could go spend it right then for what you needed. So there was a time when the word "cash" did mean something.

sorry if i sound like a dick but i have never saw a michelin tire for any 4x4 that cost 450.00.maybe from your land rover dealer.and yes i see very large tires everyday at work(look up 450 ton komatsu haul truck)so maybe thats where people are coming from.

I used to go through this. I've learned that, no matter what you say, most people assume that your price is ridiculously high and designed to produce a lower haggle price for which you're willing to settle. Now I just price things accordingly. It's easier than expecting more from people than that of which they're capable.

After selling shit on Craigslist, I've learned to ask way more than you actually want and then let the buyer haggle you down to the price you actually want. So, I think you should hold off for a while and then re-list them for ~$2000 and the let people haggle you down to $1600.

I bought a set of tyres as take offs, and I got the 4 wheels, and tyres for 20% of what the 'dealer' charged, it was a TRD set, and it was cheaper than buying new tyres. They are take offs for a reason...upgrade your shit, and sell the factory shit cheap, or expect to hold on to the shit for a long time. The guys who will spend 50% of dealer price for factory tyres/wheels are idiots. Enjoy your new rims, and your 80K LR, forget about $100. The frustration is not worth it.

I also rarely haggle. 90% of the time if you have an item for sale for $1000 but I am only willing to pay $900, I walk away. I figure if I go too low it could be offensive. The other %10 of the time I offer $900 and if they accept, great. If not, I walk away.

Agreed...I usually always keep the factory stuff so i can put it back on when i sell the car. This was a rare case where the guy bought my RRS with the aftermarket wheels. So, now just need to sell the OEM wheels to clean out the garage.

I don't let my customers haggle. I know what the demand is for my product and what its going for elsewhere and price accordingly, no discounts, no sales. I've worked for a couple of stores that marked things up at full retail then knocked money off to make people feel like they were special. I always called this "the kissin' before the fuckin'".
In nearly every case the customer paid more than they should have. The retailer has a huge advantage over the customer in haggling because he knows what his bottom line is and can stay above it.
Example: Item X has a $3000 price tag on it. The customer likes it. Retailer knocks off 20% and offers item X for $2400.
Customer asks "Is theat the best you can do?".
Retailer- "Let me see if I can take anymore off, I need to check my books" (or check with my manager, or call the manufacturer or whatever).
Retailer- comes back after a few minutes "How about 25% off? That's $3250 and don't forget, you get our lifetime clean it free service"(or some other BS designed to get you to come back in the store).
Customer-"Sold"
The customer feels like they have gotten a great deal. What they don't know is that the retailer would have gone as low as $2000.

Sorry unless htose tires self inflate and the heh heh heh entire sytem is for sale (oh man he did it didn't he) they are not worth the $450 asking price. If the are simple tires that happen to be brand new...$450??? I can get DC's for $230, or Nitto's for under $200...do they come with a happy ending? Oh, BTW a full set of off road tires that will rescue your LR when it gets stuck, for my Dak 4x4 were, on, hahaha, custom drilled for the assinine bolt pattern of 2004, altogether $1200 onto my truck. I probably could have saved about $400 by getting some other alloy or BS wheel, but Panty 6 wanted NASCAR wheels for her truck so custom bolt hole drilled NASCAR wheels she got...the compramise were the trail strength Nitto's that have already proven their worth by pulling the neighbor's bronco out of his yard....deep banked yards here, slope was too steep, and ground was too slick and soft for his street ready AT's to handle...but those trail nitto's did a pretty fair job of making a nice spot for a garden with their tilling on the way up

My Cousin was selling a beater Ford truck for $900 bucks just to get it out of his yard. Guy shows up and starts going over the truck "Oh this needs fixed and that isn't right". Did I mention it was a $900 truck. Then the guy is like "Well I'll give you $750 cause this and that needs fixed". So my cousin told him then he wanted $1500 and not a penny less now that he picked apart a $900 truck that ran and drove.

Take a picture of the set of tires and wheels as they lay on the ground next to your Rover. Make your picture large enough to see enough detail and to allow you to write on the picture without obstructing the view of your take-offs and the two tires and wheels on one side of your Rover. I just print the picture on a piece of 8x11 regular white paper and write on the open space...
Take a copy of your picture to the parts department at Land Rover and ask them how much per rim. Write the amount on the front of the picture somewhere, have the service or parts department stamp the dealer logo next to the written price. They've gotta have something with the dealer name on a rubber stamp--a "Paid" stamp, anything with the the dealer name will work.
Go to a Michelin dealer and ask for a written tire-purchase estimate.
Donate the tire/wheel package to Goodwill or Salvation Army. At tax time, deduct the total amount of the value as proven by your picture and tire estimate. Include a copy of the estimate and picture with your tax filing as proof of value. (Don't forget to include a copy of the Salvation Army/Goodwill receipt you got for the donation.) The picture proves you acquired the tires and wheels when you bought your Rover and that you've replaced them.
I've done this 5 times on 5 different vehicles over the years. Never any problem. It actually worked out to "about" 34% tax credit (that'll depend on your tax bracket). That is to say, it's the "same" as a .34 x $5000 refund, but you'll have to wait til next year to recoup the money. If you know your tax bracket, multiply it by $5G's to figure out your refund credit.

Price out Michelin's for a Ford F250 with factory 20's, the cheapest they were was $1850 mounted and balanced.

If you can't get your asking price, I personally would reevaluate and reprice <span style="font-style: italic">IF</span> I really wanted to sell it. That said, very few things I ever have for sale eat, and all are paid for, so I can afford to keep them if I can't get what I feel I need to out of them. If that's the case, well, problem solved eh?

The picture proves you acquired the tires and wheels when you bought your Rover and that you've replaced them.
I've done this 5 times on 5 different vehicles over the years. Never any problem. It actually worked out to "about" 34% tax credit (that'll depend on your tax bracket). That is to say, it's the "same" as a .34 x $5000 refund, but you'll have to wait til next year to recoup the money. If you know your tax bracket, multiply it by $5G's to figure out your refund credit. </div></div>

2.) You guessed it, those tires and rims don't fit ol' Billy Bobs Nissan so demand probably ain't all that great. Therefore you can only ask what the market will bear. Let's say you are in the 27 percent tax bracket, those 5K rims and tires just saved you $1350.
Again I'll ask, Who is being cheap? LOL!

This is hilarious to me because back in 95 my best friend had a beat to crap truck that leaked every fluid. I mean even the rear differential leaked. It was a 72 or 73 Ford Factory High Boy and we beat it to hell. The only thing we hadn't done to it was roll it over.
When he was leaving to college he put an ad in the paper to sell it for $300 and got 0 calls. The following week when the paper re-ran the ad they screwed up and listed it at $3000. He called and bitched and they refunded him his money for listing it. He got 5 calls that weekend and sold the truck for $1900.
People love to haggle. Maybe if you re-list them lower they will bid each other beyond what you are already asking.
