Just had to share this with you....got home from a long trip down to Aus/NZ yesterday to find that my new (first) GAP was ready to collect from the shipper! Forgot the jetlag and went straight down this morning

....here are first pics (straight out of the box).

Started off with the intention of being a straight M40A1 clone but decided to go a little off spec and George helped out with a few recommendations. Spec is:

McM ADJ-HTG stock with thumbwheel adjustor, Pachmayr decel pad, 4 x Flushcups, Atlas fore-end rail, multicam dipped.

Trued Rem 700 SA with left side GAP Bolt Stop, Remington Trigger (around a 3.25lb pull), Badger heavy recoil lug, Badger M4 Bottom Metal

Schneider 24" #7 Marine Contour 1 in 12" stainless barrel, Cerakote Black chambered in .308WIN

MST100 in USO repro mount

First impressions...beautiful fit and finish, feels very solid...and maybe a little lighter than I expected

I'd really like to thank George and all the guys at GAP for building me a fabulous rifle...great job! Thanks!

Planning to get out with her on Wednesday and shoot.

It's the TAB Cobra Elite

Me too.... I had the Fastex Buckle version but Tony kindly "upgraded" the sling to the Cobra version for me for a small contribution

Thanks Pat. I switched from the standard HTG as I read a few comments that it was a little low for a perfect weld. When the cheekpiece isn't raised I can see why this could be the case. No problem with this baby though, just wind it up until it suits!

I'd expect nothing less

On the schedule....hopefully if I can get out of working on Wednesday but I'll certainly come back on this.

Re: Christmas came early...new GAP .308!!

I had a McMillan A5 stock dipped in the multicam film a while back for a badger action build. It looks great and holds up well.

nice rifle. happy early christmas to you

Re: Christmas came early...new GAP .308!!

Thanks guys! Appreciate the kind comments.

Spent some time yesterday shooting in the barrel (don't want to debate the pros and cons, been covered loads of times elsewhere

)

Main observations so far:

1) Trigger is great, feels very smoth consistent and crisp.

2) The ADJ-HTG stock is really comfortable, ergonomics feel right, everything seems to fall neatly to hand adn the adjustable cheekpiece makes getting the correct weld/eye relief a breeze.

3) I put 20 rounds through the barrel (Schneider 24" stainless, 1 in 12 twist, #7 contour) as per GAP's instructions (shoot one, clean) over ten rounds. I then did five additional 2 round strings, cleaning between each. Despite using the cheapest ammo I could find (Privi Partizan at £8 per box), there was no copper fouling to be seen on the patches (cleaned using only Wipeout Patch Out and Accelerator - no brushes).

4) Listen carefully to anybody who tells you that the MST100 is a bitch to zero...if you are going to try read up as much as possible (this is a good starter: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthre...864#Post1496864), take a gun vise along to the range (or a spare pair of hands), a long Allen Key and a sense of humour. Oh yes....and think long and hard before touching the parallax adjustment! I did...and I'm wishing I hadn't!

Hopefully John III can get me back on track.....

Awesome rig!

Same thing happened to me, actually! I didn't expect to see it for four more months, and guess what, I just got a call today from Tracy, its done, and going out on the truck. I'll have it Saturday. Always been a dream to have a GAP rifle, and it came true-EARLY!

I agree, it makes for a GREAT christmas.

Thanks! It's a great feeling when the call/mail comes in! Enjoy it!

But....if you've spec'd the MST100....don't be too tempted to tinker with it

Glad to say that I seem to have got the parallax sorted (put it back to 100yds)....thanks to a lot of great CS from John III and long-shot's thread and advice.

I swear I'll never touch it again...EVER! I'm going to lose the objective wrench in a hedge somewhere!

Will recheck zero and shoot some groups and post again later...probably the next time I can get out will be after Christmas now

In the meantime....Merry Christmas to everyone here on the Hide!

Re: Christmas came early...new GAP .308!!

GAP shipped it to EPSS w/c 19th October. It had arrived at EPSS by 30th October.

It then sat around at EPSS for a while as Mike was on his travels....

EPSS had it on a plane to the UK w/c 30th November.

It was cleared and with my shipper on 7th or 8th December.

I picked it up on 9th December.

In all I'd guess actual travelling time a little over two weeks

The main delay in all this was getting the Export Licence (EPSS took care of this whilst the build was going on.

I'd have no hesitation in recommending EPSS if you need a US FFL.
