Another great custom action for rimfire. Anybody has info.? They are available to place order SOON? $1400 is it worthy? Looks like it uses a vudoo magazine and rim-x magazine.

TYPO problem change the title.Hope they will not backdown on this project ALL in one action good deal.

I love my Curtis Customs Axiom and running multiple calibers with a switch lug and centerfire (6.5, 6, 223) has been great for me, but 22LR is a totally different animal.

This sounds cool, but I would let it get out in the market and see what people think once the general public starts running them.

Sir,I like the rim-x too.I really love the QUICK BARREL CHANGE of this custom action just screw the new barrel into the action then finish it off with 2 set screws, without removing the action to the stock, much easier than rim-x barrel change.Yes you are right I hope too it will feed well.

Some parts of his reply:
The Valor is available now. The 22lr conversion should be available within a couple weeks. We do sell a bottom metal also. We also sell a 3 round mag
If you have any other questions please give us a call.
Thank you

Not sure why this is really considered a benefit on .22lr's, where barrels take forever and a day to get shot out..

I'm not sure why a rim-x would need a quick barrel change feature.

I believe he’s talking about Curtis.

They use the same receiver as centerfire

I understand that.

What I don't get is why he was purposefully contrasting the Curtis and the Rim-X on that specific feature, as if it's a downfall that the Rim-X, a dedicated rimfire rifle, didn't also have that capability.

Just seems weird that of all features on a dedicated rimfire, that's what is being pulled out as a negative.

But perhaps I completely misunderstood his post.

It’s certainly not a negative, simply a feature that would be nice to have on even a dedicated rimfire

Arguably it can be a negative, it introduces more potential failure points into a rifle. On a rimfire, the only advantage to me would be the convenience of removing a barrel for say cleaning, but even that isn't difficult with a shouldered barrel. Certainly not a feature I would look for in a dedicated rimfire, though I can't speak for everyone.

Specifically speaking about the Curtis, what's really cool with the design is that you can take your exact match rifle, put a new bolt, mag and barrel on, and you are shooting rimfire. In theory, that's a really cool concept, though I do worry about execution, and how reliable a centerfire turned rimfire is really going to be.

Time will tell. Im sure some one here will test one.

I'm sure there will be more then a few guinea pigs on here lining up to test it out. One of the cool things about this concept is that it's only a barrel, bolt and mags, so it's a pretty cheap way to get into rimfire. I for one am curious to hear people's results.

Rimfires are notoriously finicky, much more so then centerfires. Part of Vudoos success is that they at a minimum sell barreled actions, no lone actions. This allows them to control all aspects and ensures their products leave the shop shooting correctly and reliably. Look at the Rim-X, all the reliability issues stem from builders who don't specializing in rimfire building unreliable guns, then going back and blaming it on the action.

There's a lot of nuances to rimfire rifles, and I fear that replacing a bolt, putting on a new barrel and a mag to turn a centerfire into a rimfire is not going to take into account all those nuances, and result in a less then reliable product.

But you're right, time will tell. I will quietly await for all the Curtis rimfire threads that will pop up in due time, and we can see how it's working out.

Rick137, Good to hear that someone is already doing that before. I hear a lot of good thing on the BR8

Update: The valor is using a vudoo mags. Also thay have bottom metal that works with valor.According to curtis c.

You guys are talking like there isn’t any way to make a centerfire rifle convertible to a rimfire and be reliable. True the struggle is real for dedicated rimfire platforms to be completely reliable, but not impossible. Neither is making a centerfire to rimfire conversion, it has been done very successfully before. The Sauer conversion it a work of art, I have put many many thousands of rounds through one as a rimfire and as a centerfire using 2 different platforms and can honestly say I never had 1 malfunction of any kind. So if Curtis pulls this off it will be very cool!

I do have to say that having owned a centerfire/rimfire system I rarely went back and forth between the 2 conversions, it just always felt like a pain in the ass to me. I am sure many of you have owned a centerfire with multiple calibers for one rifle / scope combo and hardly ever switch between them. At least I know I never do.

I am not here to proclaim that this rifle will be the end all, or will ever even come to being. This is a big undertaking for sure. However I do have to recognize and applaud the attempt by Curtis. I highly doubt I’ll ever buy one b/c I have been down that road and it is not for me mainly b/c I am fortunate enough to be able to afford a dedicated centerfire and a dedicated rimfire system. If my financial situation ever changes this may be a great option, and where I think the real market for this system will be.

I am looking forward to watching this come to life, I hope they succeed because more options is better...

Why would MPA know anything about the Curtis rifle?

This is from The Firearm Blog.
”Also on display at the Masterpiece Arms booth was the new 22LR conversion kit for the Curtis Custom short actions. Of all the complete rifles and custom actions designed to shoot the 22LR, this was the only conversion kit I found at this year’s SHOT show. I really like the concept of using my existing action, trigger, chassis, and scope. The conversion requires a new bolt, ejector, magazine, and barrel of course. It takes Vudoo magazines. The bolt and ejector will sell for $475 and be available in March.”

MPA had one on display in their booth at SHOT 2020
