I purchased a savage 111 in .338 win mag dirt cheap from a friend. After thinking about it's recoil and price of ammunition, I was wondering if it is possible or worth it to convert it to 30-06. What would have to be done for it to shoot 30-06. Or should i just shoot it as thanks in advance.

You'll have to replace the barrel, which being a Savage is not difficult. However the big change is going to be the bolt. You may or may not have fitment problems. Since you got it "dirt cheap" I would sell it and buy what you want rather than putting too much money into it to try and make it something it's not.

Bolt will not be an issue... all you have to do is change the bolt head. a $20 product new. you may be able to find someone willing to trade bolt head and barrel straight across. there is a lot of 30-06s out there that not to many people want. It is a very easy task. I have a 30-06 barrel just sitting on the shelf never even considered getting rid of cause they're a dime a dozen. I say do it!

Easy swap. Barrel and bolt head. You should be able to find a person that will swap you or maybe 2 people to swap you(1 for the barrel and one for the bolt head).
Go to www.Savageshooters.com and lurk about to find somebody to swap with. If you want to post something in their classifieds you have to join for $15.

They are what you use to set the headspace with. You adjust the headspace to close on the GO gauge and not to close on the NO-GO gauge.
