Rifle Scopes Covenant 5 4-16 vs Bushnell Nitro 3-12

What do you guys think? Looking for an inexpensive .223 truck gun scope and since SWFA doesn’t have a tree reticle, I have been kicking around these two scopes. They are both offered in first focal plane and have mrad tree reticles. The covenant five is Cabela’s store brand, and from my research they do not offer a full lifetime warranty, where as Bush now does. I am leaning more towards the bush now simply because of the history and the warranty. Right now they both are on sale for only $250. I’m still leaning towards the bushy. Any experience with either of these?

I have been looking hard at the 2.5-10 and 3-12 FFP Nitro for an AR that needs a scope. Cameraland has the 2.5-10 for 199. Its been in out of my cart about 5 times.

The Nitro is definitely a reticle hold scope. The clicks can easily run together when trying to adjust. I set mine at 50 yards on my 17 hmr. Not a great scope but for the current price I’m good with it being on a Rimfire

The Bushy looks to be better built for sure. I wish SWFA would update from 6 years ago lol.

SWFA updating reticles is like asking Remington to do the right thing. Sure it could happen but I wouldn’t hold my breath

The Nitro is definitely a reticle hold scope. The clicks can easily run together when trying to adjust. I set mine at 50 yards on my 17 hmr. Not a great scope but for the current price I’m good with it being on a Rimfire

Honestly, I would hold it 99% of the time because it’s going on my Pdog gun. Targets are from 150-1200 changing all the time. No time to dial.

I bought one of the 2.5-10 ffp mil Bushnell's from Doug.

It's a great gopher gun scope. I can hold to 200 yards with a 50 yard zero.

Ffp and the glass quality aren't quite meshing. I can only get the first 10 Mills nice and sharp, they get progressively blurry as you fall down to the edge. Reticle is completely useless until about 5x also.

I'm happy with it as a 200 yard .22 scope that lives on an old lever gun. It'll live on 10x and do it's job.

I would not recommend it for match use at all.

Useless, as in you cant see the reticle as an aiming point? Too bad, not like a 2.5-10 screams to the crowd that wants an ultra fine aim point.

You repeated yourself 3 times in there and just buy my Bushnell matchpro. In all honesty, I wouldn't be too excited about either. Cabela’s has been shit since Bass pro bought them, and Bushnell had a great warranty for three years ending two years ago.

Yeah. It's almost usable on white paper, but any sort of contrast and it disappears. It's super fine even on 10x.

It's a cheap scope, not going to be perfect. It's good enough I'm not upset at $200. Had I paid the $450 list price I'd have sent it back just for the glass clarity falling off so hard towards the edges.

Ok, I went to Jeff’s to look at his. I was actually surprised. It feels as solid as a red brick. It’s a touch heavy, as in good. Feels good. I was expecting a Gen 1 PST in feeling and weight but it feels much more refined and solid. The glass is actually really good! Better than my SWFA 10x which isn’t a high bar, but if this thing tracks and holds zero like a SWFA, then this is the new budget scope to beat! FFP with a tree reticle and 13 mil hold? I’ll probably rarely dial this as I don’t have time too. But I’ll track test it and see.

I ordered it from Doug. Can’t wait.
