It's out there you just need to buy it and forget about the price, it will never go down. Just like gas prices that are going up daily, if you need it the price is just an inconvenience. The baseline backup stock is CCI SV which you can find on sale all the time. The match top tier brands are out there at the distributors but you gotta be quick and buy enough to last a year or more. In the long run its the only way to buy because you are shooting the same stuff. It took me years to figure it out and stop chasing my tail. I get dozens of email on ammo sales every week, the deal is getting cheap / free shipping. Every once in a while places like kyguco runs sale on SV worth looking at. It's not a cheap sport, the good stuff will cost you, so as they say cry once and have fun getting the job done right the first time. I always keep a copy of the ammo comparison list in my bag as reference at the range to see what the other guys are shooting and compare their targets to the groups on the list. I also shoot a lot of TX 22C handguns that eat ammo by the pound. It's where bricks SV disappear quickly.

That was good advice a year ago. But the way we’re headed now you might as well enjoy yourself before the wheels fall off and the whole damn house of cards that is our economy collapses.
Don't use CCI pisses me off with ups and down. If you buy enough good stuff- what happens if your rifle doesn't like that lot# or speed, buy a new gun?
Sure, why not? That sounds like as good enough reason as anything else.
This might help with the incontinence up & down problems with CCI SV. Quick video is spot on ( ) the guys does a good job showing the target with thw SD numbers and explains his results around the 5.33 mins. Its not the ammo. Its knowing how to apply the fundamental of POA to equal POI and having the technique and skills to make adjustments for the conditions and keeping the scope level. Shooting bullet on bullet is a wind game and doing it well confirm that you have the right stuff to aim small. If you can shoot SV well then shooting Eley/ Lapua is worth the extra $$ in getting right tools & ammo to do the job. Just saw that KSS has Eley in stock.

Ordered an MTR trainer and I was wondering if anyone is running the Straight Timney on the new version of the Trainer with the manners stock. Having buyers remorse in the sense if it's going to feel comfortable pulling the trigger, trying to get a 90 degs on the trigger. Do not want my hand floating too much. Any feedback would be appreciated

This what I am getting with my rig. - I just passed 5,000 + rounds with my Manners VPT Lilja barreled rifle that has a 0.044 HS setup. I used the 0.043 Go gauge to check the setup. I have not had any problems with the feeding or extractions after sharpening the extractor tip to get point contact to bite into the radius & re profiling the corner to clear the rim. I also reformed the extractor spring clip smaller to increase the force on the extractor.
Following Lilja's installation and barrel cleaning instructions is critical to get it right. You must clean the chamber every 100 rds and at every 200-300 rds use an old bronze brush and solvent to scrub the chamber to remove the carbon ring. A Teslong Borescope to check your work is necessary. The accuracy of Lilja is outstanding and measures up to JT's sub MOA YT videos. I use CCI SV (60%), Eley Match, Eley seim auto bench rest and some SK./ Lapua. Just started shooting 200 yds last week as the temperatures are now in the 60F. Nice, its stil in the sub MOA range! Its really a fun shooter if you keep it clean.
I agree to this, my Lilja groups open up at 100 rounds. So I clean at 100 or 150. Could you please show a picture of the modified spring and extractor? I set my HS at .040. Every now and then I get one stuck. I fault that on dirty chamber, sticky Eley lube and cold temps.
I'm looking forward to shooting at my club this spring. I've been practicing with the CZ here in FL. and consistently shoot 2350/2400 with no flags. Still no 2500's. The more I shoot it the better it gets (approx 1500 rds).
No pictures needed. Remove the spring clip and just squeeze the spring clip down to a smaller diameter. It installs the same way but you need to check the ends to see if they are seated (use small flat screwdriver). Sharpen the extractor using a flat needle file to touch the extractor tip edge to make it sharp and that the tip gets a good bite in the radius of the case rim. If necessary change the corner angle so there is only point contact in the radius and no contact with the remaining flat surface of the rim flange.
CZ sets the Head Space to .043/.044 and the Lilja instructions get you to the same HS as the OEM. To ensure that all ammo functions properly the .043 HS is critical and is why Lilja also sells a .043 Go Gauge. Playing around with HS is a total waste of time. You will have problems with ejection if you are out of SAAMI tolerance. See page 14 of the SAAMI spec that shows the Go Gauge & Bullet dimensions. Drive ban engraving that you have with a shorter match chamber is affected. So following the instructions is the way to go . Here is a good Video that explains some of the problems with aftermarket CS457 barrels ( ) after watching this you will have the bug to learn more so go to his channel watch several of the other 22LR accuracy & testing videos and see why the SAAMI requirements are critical to achieve chamber pressures to fly the 0 .960" projectile. The 22LR Bullet re profiling video is outstanding and is well worth the time to learn about ammo performance. I should have sent a picture it was worth 1,000 words. Good luck and be smarter everyday. That’s a good looking setup GK. I can’t shoot a 2500 in practice to save my life. I just bought a Area 419 weighted ARCA rail for my 457 VPT. The jury is still out on if it’ll be legal for ARA Factory class. The match director at the venue I shoot the most seems to think it will be.
I have never seen a CZ with headspace set to .043/.044 from the factory, most are in the .046" - .048" range and I have checked dozens.
both my 452 and 457 measured 0.046-0.047" using the plastigauge method (actually soft lead solder).
Have any of yall tried SK High Velocity Match in your 457? I can't find any decent ammo locally asides from it. Tried a bunch of cheap brands and the only one that was halfway decent was Federal Match. I've read conflicting reports about the sk HV. Should I just get a brick of CCI standard velocity?
It’s okay for HV. HV is in general less accurate than SV. It does perform relatively well for long range, past 200. It’s worth the price for that. It will outperform Federal Ultramatch.
I bought 2 bricks for $70 ea., though that was a very fair price. I think it shot about the same as Std. +.
I have Five or Six and two BRNO 2’s which are similar. I sold a NIB 452 American last week.
great rifles, I have 2 of the 452 scouts that my sons learned on. I honestly don't think you can find a better 22 for kids and possibly adults. Well made, packed full of features, accurate, reliable, balanced real well. love them. they don't shoot them as much now
I’m not sure, but I do know that I’ve already seen two of them here in the PX in the past few months. Competition guys often replace them with a chassis of choice. Personally, I love the MTR stock, even if LOP is a tad short at times.

WeeHooker - That is a nice looking MTR stock. In fact, the whole rifle looks pretty special, with that stainless bbl and custom bolt knob. If that's your rifle, and not the one that the stock came off of, post some photos of the groups it produces, please...
Thank you! Yes, this one is mine as assembled this week. It started as a 17hmr Synthetic American donor rifle 6 months back and has been evolving since. It spent most of it's days in a MTD Oryx chassis with this 22" match IBI barrel .The chassis was good but I realized that I just missed the MTR stock after selling that rifle to a friend in need. Hopefully, this is the last of its major transformations. ( OK, maybe a Timney trigger coming up) . I haven't shot it since restocking it but hope to get to it this week.
It's hard to catch the depth and contrast of the grain with the cell phone but it really is a nice piece of wood. I got lucky to have been offered it.

Anybody using a MDT scope rail on a CZ 457? Please post a picture, like to see how far it extends past the action.
I’m interested too. I’m currently set up okay, using the Area 419 rail, but I’ve got the rings maxed out forward to get decent eye placement and wouldn’t mind a tad more in that direction.
Fits perfectly IMHO. Sits a little lower than the A419 option. Those are low rings on there too,

WeeHooker - Is that MTR stock just as you received it, or did you re-finish it? The finish on the butt looks a lot smoother and shows the wood's grain/figure a lot more clearly than most of the MTRs I've looked at, including my own. If it was re-finished, whomever did the work did a really nice job of it. It looks as if the letters that spell out CZ 457 MATCH TARGET RIFLE in the upper/rear part of the stippling on the forearm were stippled-over, which doesn't hurt the stock's appearance one little bit. Kudos to whoever did the work, or if I'm mistaken, and CZ decided to leave the letters spelling out the model of rifle out of the stippling on later rifles, then my complements to them. Any way you look at it, the stock sure complements the appearance of the rifle. Enjoy!

Does the 457 need to be drilled/tapped to mount a picatinny rail that has screws that install through the top? I was looking at getting a BScar standard length 25 MOA rail but was unsure. I like the 419 rail, but $100 is a bit steep to me and I prefer the standard length look.
My 457 Pro-Varmint Suppressor Ready model has holes on the receiver, but they are shallow with no threads. Do I need a rail that has screws on the side like the 419?

Either rail will fit directly with the screws provided. I have both. The rails that have screws on the top don’t actually screw into the CZ’s rail. They just provide tension to level it and hold it in place.

I have the 15moa version of this rail and it A) fits perfectly, and B) stays tight and in place. Well made piece.
I've purchased four of BScar's 25 MOA picatinny scope rails for my CZ457s, and have had excellent service out of the three that are currently mounted on: American, VPT, MTR rifles. Have used scopes as heavy as Athlon Cronus, which is a 34mm, 4.5-29x56 scope, with no issues.
I have both Rails, the 419 and the DIP 25 MOA. I like the DIP rail better because it about 1/8" + lower and is half the cost at $51 delivered. Both rails use screws to pinch the dovetail. The lower scope height the lower the cheek riser needs to be and is key feature in getting a good ER setup. I think the DIP rail is a better deal in terms of cost/ design/ longer. YMMV but check it out. https://www.diproductsinc.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1422402 . The level on the 419 is nice but is not user friendly. Save the money and get a "Send it MV3 LRA" level. 30 MOA for the 419 vs 25MOA for the DIP rail. No drilling setup the Set screws is where the holes that you talked about contact. Call DIP and talk to their tech rep he knows the details if you still have questons. Also get a metal Mag well and extended Mag release with the Rail order and ditch the plastic Mag well. Its just the typical stuff you have to do to fix the cheap parts on a over prices production hardware, they are all alike no matter what brand that you have.
My LGS has one of DIP rails. Just wasn’t a fan of the extended picatinny rail. I like how the standard one looks.
I didn’t know they made a steel magazine release. I’ll definitely be ordering that. The plastic on the mag well doesn’t bother me right now but I think it probably would now that I have a bravo coming. Thanks for letting me know about those two options.

The Mag well parts are 6061 aluminum. So you like the Dovetail receiver look, so how high are you scope rings and what are to using for a cheer riser ? The extra pic rail length helps in getting the ER with longer scopes that are in the 10-50 X 60 range.
I’m using a set of warne 22 cal medium rings. Not a fan of the dovetail look either. Just didn’t know there was a standard length picatinny until I had my scope mounted and zeroed using the dovetail. Don’t have a need for a cheek riser with my current set up. But I did order a KRG Bravo and I’ll put a hoptic cheek rest on it, if I can find where I put it.
Planning on getting the bscar standard 25 MOA and a different set of warne rings to help me reach out to 300.
My scope is just a Vortex Diamondback tactical 4-16. I’d have to look to see where it’s mounted exactly on the receiver. I don’t have any plans to get a scope with that much magnification.

I just finished setting up my CZ 457 and was wondering what you all are using for ammo? I picked up an assortment to run through it and see how it performs. Aside from the subsonic rounds, which I don't expect much out of as far as accuracy, does anyone have any experience with the SK and Eley? I've heard good things about it.
