Just wondering if anyone is running one of these. I ordered one off of recommendation from a few people I have talked to around nd but like to hear thoughts from people that have used it and compared to others. This is my first suppressor and can’t wait to get it. I am on month 7 so should be getting close. Although the government shutdown probably really slowed it down!

I know they are made by Mack brothers for Dakota silencer if that makes any difference on anything. Probably that they just make more on those

Looks like sound suppression is pretty compareable to the Ultra 9, with the TBAC having a slight edge.
I have a Varminter 4.0 on the way as well. I also have a 2.0 and 3.0. They're good cans. No complaints, and Dakota Silencer makes it as easy as possible.
I like how the 3.0 and 4.0 come apart for cleaning. Is the Ultra user-serviceable? That's a big selling point for me, considering the crap that comes out of them, and no, it's not from rimfire or cheap surplus ammo. It's mainly H4350.

good to see the comparison. Just ordered the 4.0 a few weeks ago and I'm looking forward to trying it out. This is my second suppressor and man did Dakota Silencer make it easy. The whole process was done at a sportsman's show in less than 10 minutes.

Anyone gonna let the guy in the video know his scope is canted?

No, that's excessive. I put several hundred 223 and several hundred more 22LR through my 223 can before cleaning it. The only problem with that is getting the baffle stack out. That's where this beauty is worth it's weight in gold:
https://www.dakotasilencer.com/prod...ter-4-0-lima-tango-rimfire-silencer-cleaning/
If you're handy with machining, you could probably build a similar tool for a few bucks.

I typically just weigh the thing clean, and then after it seems like it's been a long time since I've cleaned it, I weigh it again. If it's gained an ounce or more, it's time to clean.

I've run a 3.0 and waiting on a 4.0. No complaints whatsoever.

WRT cleaning, their "baffle jack" is well worth the money for cleaning it (especially if you go a few hundred rounds between cleanings...which happens a lot in a big PD town).

I have a 4.0 on my 6.5 SAUM and absolutely love it. I haven't put but 55 rounds through it so haven't thought about cleaning it. Mine showed up just over 7 months after it was submitted. I use that rifle for hunting and although the added length is kind of a nuisance I will probably always hunt with a suppressed rifle from now on!
Enjoy your suppressor, you will love it!!

Is the baffle removal tool approved by mack brothers, and is the warranty still good if one were to disregard the manufactures instructions? Typically warranties in this industry are voided if a product is used outside of the manufactures instructions.

I haven't seen it spelled out, but I don't think its something that has to be. Dakota Silencer sells both the can and the baffle removal tool, and have video showing its use. Pretty sure they intend you to use the two together.
And how can anyone prove how many rounds you have between cleanings? That 50-100 rounds is a "CYA" ultra-conservative number that all but guarantees you'll have no trouble getting the baffles out, even without the tool.

But if all that concerns you, just buy a can that doesn't come apart, shoot it until it weighs a pound more than it should, and throw it in the garbage. -- That's the short version of what happened to my buddy with a Gemtech.

Yeah, I went 300-400 rds in the v3.0, and it was a bear getting the baffles out (I think my buddy and I broke two wooden spoon handles trying to get them out). This was after soaking in a 50/50 CLR/water solution (which removed a metric crap ton of carbon). The next outing (I wasn't there) my buddy commented to me "This baffle jack is so worth the money", since it just pushed the baffles and carbon out without a whole lot of heartache and effort.

Bumping this because I ran into the Dakota Silencer guys.. They are pushing their 4.0 (now Banish) when I originally planned on going with the TBAC .338 Ultra. I agree with them that I will likely never need a .338 caliber can, but is their baffle stack idea really that much better than the monolithic designs for cleaning and such? I rarely believe what a salesman says...

Agreed. Their baffle removal tool is the cats ass. I like to put the baffles and end cap in an ultrasonic cleaner with a strong mix of CLR and water. Wipe with paper towel and repeat until clean.

I just got my 30 cal 4.0 (took almost exactly a year), and first impressions are good. It seems to be every bit a quiet as my 30 cal 2.0 and much lighter. I think the option to remove the two end baffles and cut it down to a 7 inch can is cool. I'd think that would be a hit with guys that can't decide between a 9 and 7 inch can.

Just got mine yesterday, finally, almost exactly a year also. Went and shot about 10 rounds as I didn’t have much time but had to try it. This is my first one and I was impressed but can’t compare to anything. I did buy the tool also as it seems like a good idea.

Got more rounds down range yet?

I just got approved for my Varminter 4.0 last Friday...so now I’m waiting for the tax stamp to get to Dakota Silencer and all that BS before they can ship it to me.

I’m really curious to hear first hand opinions on it. Nobody posts a video about it on YouTube aside from Dakota silencer themselves and also Rays video.

I’ll be using it with my 223 Remington and 6.5 creedmoor right now. I bought the 6.5mm and .22 cal end caps hoping to reduce every possible decibel of sound I can.

Thanks for any/all feedback on it!

Just don't forget to change caps when you move it from your 22 to 6.5 gun. Zoinks!
I'd be interested to know just how much difference the end cap really makes. I shoot mainly 6mm through my 30 cal can. What can a $60 slightly smaller end hole do? Is it even 1db?

They quote a 3-9 decibel reduction from the 30 cal end cap, depending on caliber and load I would assume.

And the nice part about the end cap part is I’ll have to take the 1/2x28 adapter out anyways, so I’ll definitely remember.

BUT, if I can’t tell a difference between the 6.5mm and the 22 end cap on my 223, at my ear, I’ll just leave the 6.5 cap on full time. I don’t have a decibel reader, nor do I care to test it myself. I’ll simply go off the “feel” of hearing when behind the rifle.

I'd be super skeptical about 9db reduction going from 30 cal end cap down to 22. That seems....well, ya know. I'd be surprised if the difference is even 2db on that particular can.

No clue. I’m not a sound technician. But the introductory prices for the end caps were right so I grabbed them.

I'm a bit confused why the Banish 30 isn't more talked about. Their website isn't great. Not sure if the baffles are ordered, if they have aligning tabs and if they align to the tube.

Not ordered, just have a notch/tab to stack them correctly.

I think they don't get as much attention due to their limited area that they cover/service.

Great cans though...their “baffle jack” is one of those “Now why didn’t I think to make that?” items.

Yes, the expansion chamber is notched (which eventually will never come out), so the stack is always aligned the same. Not that I think it would matter.
Thanks! Which model do you have? And I was planning on using it with both rim/center fire on the same prairie dog excursion. Do you use it this way?

I ask because I am curious if centerfire rounds would bake the rimfire crap into the baffles. I know two silencers, one smallish rimfire and one centerfire, is ideal, but hey, money is tight.

Just my opinion but when you’re paying $1,200 total for a can...I wouldn’t put rimfire shit through that particular can.

But, it’s your money, it’ll be your can, so it’s your decision what you do with it.

I’d personally just wear some foam ear plugs or something during the rimfire shooting.

It’s an awesome can.

I've got a pair of Banish 30's in NFA jail right now. I was originally under the impression that I would shoot .22LR through them as well, and I have since seen the light. There are way, way better and cheaper options to go with. There is a thread on the front page right now about Quietbore Titanium .22LR suppressors. Get one. $250 for the "kit", $200 for the e-file Form 1, and about a month later you'll be shooting suppressed .22LR. I am also in MN, so I can mail you the jig for drilling out the "solvent trap" once you get your Form 1 approved.

Ive heard nothing but good about these from people that have them
Btw, im referring to the older model to my understanding they are a very good company with good customer service

Just don’t talk to the owner, Brandon. Total douche. If I hadn’t already had a long conversation previously with a different salesman, I would’ve walked away without buying my can after my encounter with Brandon. It was that bad.

I’m not the first or last to say it about him either. Seems quite a few people have been rubbed the wrong way by him

Thanks for the heads Up.

Brandon is a pharmasist by trade. He a good guy once you get to know him. The varminter is made by mack brothers which has already been stated in the thread earlier. Mack bros make a damn good product. If you have questions on the varminter specs call mack. I have 2 v3s. Bad thing about titanium is that it heats up quick. I use one for work and one for personal. They are a pretty quiet can compared to several others that ive shot next to.

I've always wanted a Varminter suppressor given the Mack Brothers reputation. This thread got me re-interested, so I went to the Silencer Central website to check out the latest offerings and liked what I saw. Enough so that I went to a gun show in Rapid City, SD today and paid for a Banish 30 (Varminter 4.0) suppressor. If this suppressor would've been around 10 years ago I probably wouldn't have the 4 other suppressors in my gun safe that I have now.

I’m sure you probably already have a 5/8x24 to 1/2x28 adapter...but on the off chance you do not, the suppressor does not come with one

For any curious, I found going from the 30 cal end cap down to the 22 cal end cap for my 223 did make a noticeable difference to my ear....but shooting 223 through both the 22 cal and 6.5mm end cap was not as noticeable. Since I only shoot 6.5 and 223 through mine, I’m just gonna leave the 6.5 end cap in mine so I don’t have to worry about an oopsies shooting 6.5 through the 22 cal end cap.

Have the 3.0 and just ordered the Banish 30. Top notch products. Love the 3.0. Haven’t cleaned it yet, will have to get the end cap off first.

They have a baffle jack to help you get the baffles out. I have both the Bainish 30 and the baffle jack on order…one day this fall… ?

Cleaning is a breeze;

Just make a pvc tube to fit the suppressor. Pvc pipe to fit for length and dia. A flat bottomed end cap and a screw on end cap.

Put the suppressor in pvc muzzle down and full it full of CLR, the house hold cleaner for an hour or two and you shouldnt have much of a problem getting the end caps off or the baffles.
The CLR eats carbon like a maniac and it doesnt harm the suppressor.

Ive been doing this method on the v3 for years, and other ti and stainless cans. Dont do this for your aluminum cans though.

sounds like a good system. Do you put it back in the pvc tube after you take off the end cap?

You certainly could stick it back into the pvc tube after you remove the end caps. But typically everything has loosened up sufficiently to push the baffel stack out pretty easily.

When youre done with the cleaning process, dispose of the clr and carbon. Wash out the tube, let air dry and put the cap back on and throw it in the tool box for future use.
