Hey SH!

Wow, this one was a lot of work but it's finally here! If you've ever wondered how these chronographs stack up to one another, or want to drown yourself in data this weekend, then I've got an article for you.

https://blog.ammolytics.com/2019-09-06/chrono-comparison.html

For this test, I fired a 25 rounds through a suppressed bolt action and 50 rounds through a semi-auto National Match service rifle. Going in, I didn't think it was going to be enough. Now I know that I was probably in over my head. Writing a detailed review for one device is hard enough, but here I did THREE.

It's a long one and there's a lot to process, but there's also plenty I left out to avoid overwhelming readers. I'd love to hear your feedback and answer any questions!

That was a good read. Thanks!

You mention in the results section "The tables may help to assess the precision of each device by comparing the standard deviation values for each 10-round group.", I thought this was one of the most interesting pieces of data in the article, and would have liked to see it highlighted more with a graph of device SD's across shot strings.

Again, great job!

Thank you! Great feedback about the chart -- I'll add one.

I appreciate the effort you took in putting this together. While I haven't conducted testing as diligent or painstaking as yours, I have compared my MagnetoSpeed to a LabRadar on as handful of occasions and my results were very similar to yours in that the difference between the two was around 5 to 10 fps, with some shots being nearly identical. I had only a passing interest in the two box, since I have owned my MagnetoSpeed for some time now, but when we discussed it here on the Hide, it's nuances and shortcomings became readily apparent.

I do have one question: where is the graph for the Magnetospeed on the 223 charts? I see the LabRadar and Two Box, but not the MS

Thanks for taking the time to read it!

Regarding the charts: the LabRadar and MagnetoSpeed lines are nearly on top of each other. They each use different colors and shapes to help identify them. The charts are also interactive, so you should be able to turn each line on/off and zoom in and out (this is easier on a computer than on mobile).

Hope this helps!

I read it on my phone, so I likely couldn't resolve the difference between the LR and MS. Thanks!

I did a very limited comparison of the V3 Magnetospeed and LabRadar with my .308 AR-10 shooting FGMM 168s. I saw a larger variation than expected and will eventually make similar comparisons with other calibers.

You did a good review of the 3 different systems and you came out with the same conclusion and numbers that others have with there reviews. It also seems that the remote coronagraphs like the Caldwell and the Two-Box are always have lower FPS since they are placed further from the muzzle. It is one of the reasons I bought a MagnetoSpeed.
