    Hopefully they will continue to drop to the point to where they go bankrupt........I guess they are learning that caving to people that don't spend money in there store and pissing off the people that do isn't very good for there bottom line.

    Academy never price gouged during the great Sandy Hook ammo shortage. Nor raised the prices of their ARs.

    No but the head guy did issue a statement that said he wouldn’t sell ARs as he thought nobody should have a weapon such as that, but followed it up with, “if he could.” That means he made the statement and would do it for personal reasons but he was at least smart enough to realize it would cut into his biz too much.

    Not really. If it is "really hard" for any retailer to know what the product mix is for every customer then they shouldn't be in business. Cross selling is as fundamental a metric as there is. It's one thing for a dumb-ass law professor to say this, but for Dicks to not have known the impact before they made their move is almost unbelievable. They have middle of the road BI systems (Alteryx and MicroStrategy), but it seems that they do not have the wherewithal to use them. They had the opportunity to do a quick analysis beforehand. Looks like they didn't and now they are having some discomfort at having taken a shot before asking questions.

    Following the news on this we see that Dick's is certain their new policy is hurting sales. But a few media outlets are attempting to say this is not true. This article in Fortune does what it can to sway people from looking at what is happening at the register right now (and there are analysts at Dicks doing this right now) and look elsewhere, anywhere else, for an explanation:

    Other media outlets are rallying a Dicks rescue by compelling people to shop at Dicks because of their new policy.

    Maybe the marketing/social media department went screaming down the halls loud enough that it caused a company wide suspension of thought? Whatever the case I do not think they made any decisions based on logic or on any personal convictions.

    Yeah, me too. I just cut and paste a response to them with each flyer that basically says "Sorry, your policy change on firearms prevents me from using your business. You have your rights, and I have mine".

    Maybe they'll get the message...

    If I remember correctly, academy also pulled ar15 rifles from the shelves after sandy hook, but put them back a while later. Not better than dicks, but less expensive.

    Boycotting WalMart too?

    Not boycotting, but after they no longer had any 22lr I saw no reason to shop there. They are the largest retailer in the world and have significant influence over their supply chain. I used to go to the one down the street for pretty much anything they stocked, including groceries at times.
     
    I know I used to spend a good bit at their Feild n Stream stores...was a good place to find good prices on hunting clothing and a great selection of fly fishing gear. Now I'll just take my money elsewhere and watch those bastards go down.
     
    This guy buys a sizable amount of running and fishing gear each year, has an active/outdoorsy wife, and two young boys that are into youth sports.

    Dick's is 10 minutes from my house.

    Fark DSG and their virtue signaling, I'll drive 30 minutes for baseball gloves, Body Glide and Gu gels at Academy Sports...which was full of "modern sporting rifles" and "high capacity magazines" when I was in there two weeks ago.
     
    Hunters also buy:

    Fishing rods, reels, and supplies.
    Sleeping bags, tents, camp supplies(generally A LOT more than your average 'camper'), etc. Which is quite extensive. i.e. generators, trail cameras, etc.
    Boat supplies. Extensive AND expensive.
    Kayaks and canoes and associated supplies.
    Reloading supplies. Extensive.
    Sport optics NOT limited to scopes. Range finders and spotting scopes. And NOT the budget style.
    Outdoor clothing and shoe wear. Extensive.

    Honestly, the basket balls, footballs, running shoes, etc. is a mere side business for some of these retailers. If Bass Pro/ Cabela's decided to move into the actual sports side, Dicks would be limp in months.
