Did Savage improve the 93 recently?

I just picked up a new heavy barrel Savage 17HMR the other day model FV with an "E" receiver.

I have one of the early Accu-trigger models from about 8 years ago or so in an FSS configuration. The magazine was always a bitch to get to lock and extract. Just a horribly mushy magwell lockup.

Well brought my new FV home the other day and the mag inserts easily and has a positive lockup. Ejecting is also very easy and falls right out without really having to work it like the older rifle.

It also seems that the bolt knob is kinda swept back a bit and seems like it's a little bit longer.

The bolt on my FSS also had obvious machine marks and some burrs but the new bolt seems to be more finished.

Every 93r17 myself and my buddies have ever had have always been great shooters. It was just nice to have a more refined build this time around.

No issues with my Pre-E 93 in 22wmr.

I think the whole "mag hard to insert, etc" complaint is based on is how the mag retaining piece is installed, how tight its screw is in, how tight the action screw stud is in, and if the retaining bar is lined up properly when it is all torqued down.

In 2008 sometime they changed to the E receiver. The E receiver is 1/2" longer I think and has 2 barrel pins instead of 1. That is all I know about the differences. Some guns of both receivers are better about getting the mags in and out. You can fix the sticky mag problem by taking the mag retaining clip off and bending it slightly farther than it came from the factory.

They did in fact make some changes. I bought a 93fv 22mag 3 months ago and started a semi custom build. As usual i had a follower that wanted and purchased the same gun 3 weeks ago. His trigger and magazine housing are all smooth and most noteably one piece. Looks like savage has figued out that the alignment of the ejector is hard to maintain with one bolt holding it in place while it sits in a generously sized channel. The new one piece trigger/mag latch/ejector also employs the use of press on locking washers rather than c clips and is coated in a very slick dark green coating. The bolt handle is also a bit larger and swept further back.
