I have a question, totally on the level,

Why do movies with doctors. Surgeons specifically have to show us them washing their hands for like 3 minutes every time ?

I get it, they got to scrub them clean, but we’ve seen it enough already with the hand washing. I mean even in Dr Strange, hand washing.
I first heard this question brought up when I was in medical school. I think it goes way back likely even before M*A*S*H, where it was also a recurrent scene. I think it simply has to do with Hollywood (or whatever film co.) not having a fucking clue about a lot of things. My guess would be that if they made a film that involved precision rifle shooting and they didn't regularly consult an expert like you or someone else, it would be wildly inaccurate and not place emphasis where it belongs.

One small exception to this can be seen in shows like ER where they did put in an effort to convey some reality. I was in emergency medicine residency in Los Angeles when that show first started out. They had a couple writers from the show sit in on our rounds in the ER and take notes. Because of that, they got some things somewhat correct in the first few seasons.

Maybe those screen writers are referencing obsessive-compulsive washing in Shakespeare's Macbeth, as well as the psycho-political drama of Sartre's assassination love triangle play Dirty Hands -- and covertly attributing to doctors and surgeons that same mental illness, immorality, and murderous intent, in what can only be considered Hollywood's complicit and determined continuation of Stalin's infamouts "Doctors' Plot", about which Wikipedia (yes) says the following:

"First, almost all Soviet Jews ... would be shipped to camps east of the Urals ... Second, the authorities would set Jewish leaders at all levels against one another ... Also the MGB [Secret Police] would start killing the elites in the camps, just as they had killed the Yiddish writers ... the previous year. The ... final stage would be to "get rid of the rest."

Pretty sure this must be what LL was referring to, because of those damn levels -- straight up KGB tactics and anti semitism.

Maybe.

It's because they are 'operators', and they're getting jocked-up to do some operatin'.....

I've read through most of this thread and I'm a little surprised at the amount of controversy on the subject. I'm new to PRS and I installed a level on my optic to help me learn to keep my rifle level. I have found it useful as I learn my rifle. It makes sense to me that the level might be helpful when shooting from the side of a hill or at a target with un-level terrain in the background. For the record, I meticulously set up my base, rings and optic. ;)
