Only if I'm out hunting and it starts to rain. I try to do most of my shooting when it's dry. I'm not worried about the weapon, I just don't like being wet- just not my idea of a good time but should that not bother you--- Go for it and have fun

Its amazing how mean people on the internet are. Everyone is the genius. Someone asks about shooting in the rain, the correct answer would be, no its ok. But instead, you just insult the poor guy. Some people treat their guns like gold and never shoot in the rain, dont want to expose their guns to certain elements to keep them looking nice. Everything can rust, and rain is a good way to get muck and crap trapped in crevices on your gun, requiring extra steps to prevent rust and build up. But instead, "oh your a moron for asking us that question. Your stupid if you like to keep your guns looking nice." Whats up with that?

I think most of the guys are just teasin Goat. I must admit I'm also guilty of a little teasing when someone asks a question about something I'm pretty good at (not guns btw). And despite all the people's advice I still do not shoot my guns in the rain (except for the one time after I posted this question). All the references to Vietnam or other wars are true but can you honestly tell me the lifetime of the rifle was unaffected by all the nasty weather it was exposed to? I do baby my weapons and moisture is just not something I want to expose them to. Nothing anybody says will change that.

I hesitate to respond to this thread because it was almost gone but since it's back on the first page I guess it's alright.

Aubie, I know you want this thread to die, and I know “nobodies gonna change your mind” but I do have an ol’ Colt that I’ve had since the service in the early seventies and except for an occasional rebuild on worn out parts and neutering it from an M16 to an AR15. I’ve seen no additional ware on it due to use in adverse weather. And I’ve shot in rain so hard I’ve worn a dive skin under my BDU’s. So enjoy and as a final aside, I must compliment you on your great attitude during this ordeal. Good luck to you Rainman…..couldn’t resistJ

I see a potential market share for quick-detach tactical umbrellas; in marpat, acu, multicam, tactical flat black, realtree and mossy oak (for the hunters). Umbrella deploys with a spring loaded button, provides shade and shelter for the shooter and keeps glare out of optics. Attaches to your picatinny rails and can be easily removed for storage. All models $299.99, tactical flat black model $329.99.

The Subject was AR's,Made from Plastic,Aluminum,SS,and coated steel.Designed for all weather use.If you notice the Location of the OP it was WA State,Home of the year round "Rain Festival".

Yes I would like a hurt feelings report. I never paid attention to this thread until it popped back up. Then I read all the posts and it seemed pretty mean. I could careless, Im an asshole. But I like to keep my asshole antics in person. Its better that way, because then its funnier, over the net is just makes you look like a prick. Which is not funny most of the time.

Ill take one of those umbrellas by the way. Id like the mossy oak, please.

Stainless steel can rust if scratched, some lower parts are coated with a thin bullshit coating, which once scratched could result in rust. Im referring mainly to the trigger parts, Ive seen rusted hammers, buffer springs, and detents, granted they were probably made to sell and not made to use like so many things in this country. But Im just saying, nature will sneak up and bite your gun in the ass if your not careful. I believe it was well documented how easily the AR15 can fail after Veitnam, and yes many of the problems were addressed and fixed. But you cant fix stupid, and thats why some people should leave their guns inside when it rains.

I actually love shooting in the rain and dense fog and mist. Mainly because sometimes you can see the bullet move the water or fog and its just cool as hell. Thats one good thing about South East Texas. If you can handle to mosquitoes.

bad weather is how I was introduced to AR's and such--just cringed when my Custom Shop Rem 700 got soaked for 4 to 5 hrs--
was offered an AR to try out from a vet and have never changed--
lots of Military rifles are or can be made to shoot very accurately--and they are designed to work in the worst climates

Sniper school: Final stalk... rain, hail and snow... packed nearly every orfice and crevasse with mud (except the muzzle). After the stalk was over the instructor (19SFG) told us to take the guns in the shower (minus bolt) to rinse them out, then disassemble, clean and oil... nothing melted, and zero rust! (though the residual mental picture is priceless!!) That was with a Rem 700 PSS. Never had problems with AR's in the rain either!

WTF do YOU know about AR's ? Judging from your posts,you never even owned one until after you joined this Site.I'd be willing to bet I was cutting my teeth on an M16 while you were still shitting yellow,maybe before you were born,and have yet to see a bunch of lower parts all rusted up as you've described,nor have any of my scratched up SS barrels rusted either.
