Rifle Scopes Do you think we'll ever see self-adjusting scopes?

I came up with this idea today while contemplating scopes with build in range finders. Imagine a scope with a build in computer and laser range finder. The range finder finds the range and then passes that info on to the onboard computer, which has it's own ballistics table and then adjusts the crosshairs automatically. Adjusting for windage would be more difficult, but still possible. There could be some exterior module that measures the wind then passes it on wirelessly to the scope's computer. I'm sure the different technologies required to do this are out there, but I'm just not sure if anyone has put them all together yet. And if someone did, it would cost as much as a new car.

its good, I have seen it function, so now image the cost for the scope to do the work for you, this one works with the operator turning the knobs.

They have them now, but if they sold you one, they'd have to kill you...; other than that, they <span style="font-style: italic">do</span> get a mite pricey...

BTW, the windage sensor uses lasers, just like the astronomical telescopes that employ adaptive optics...

+1 a colleague that I work with (read work for...

) worked on this application a few years back....
it was all laser based.... (distance,wind speed/direction, auto reticle adjust )

The scopes are already self adjusting.

You reach around and adjust it.

See? Self adjusting.

Even with todays technology I think it would be bulky and expensive.

Besides, as Rob01 says, it'll take the fun away.

i think the price and unit would be justified for those that make a paycheck from precision shooting (l.e. of course)or protect us from the "axis of evil". wouldn't take much "work" to afford it, and would help you concentrate on concealment / extraction during and after the event, as fun shouldn't be in the equation.

they're also working out the bugs on a guided 50 cal bullet.

USO was working on one with Israel 12 years ago. It used an f22 targeting
system if memory serves me. Ranged to 2200 yards which made the laser illegal for
civilian use in this country. I Don't know what became of the project with John's
passing. He made no mention of any wind reading though.
