My right knee randomly locks. Takes 15 to 30 minutes of excruciating pain before I can get it to unlock.
It's time for surgery but I've been putting it off for a few years.
Any home remedies? Maybe a secret to get it to unlock easier.

that's a better suggestion than my idea of guessing and suggesting you use a hack saw lol then you would be the stumpy of the hide . lol Cause every group need that one friend that is willing to accept any dare willing to jump when all logic says don't jump .

This should help....vodka for pain and Bullock to distract you haha

If you think it's "time for surgery", then maybe it's at least time for a trip to the doctor. Once you're getting lock-ups, you have a mechanical problem, but it might be something a minor as some loose bodies.

A locking knee is, in general, a sign of a meniscal injury. You need a physical exam and likely imaging to determine.
That's what they told me about both of my knees. It feels like they pop out of and back in to joint...the pain can be minor or to the point of almost passing out...everything turns gray for a short period of time, then back to just pain until it subsides.

Since I can't "reproduce" the problem in the Doc's office, they say surgery isn't needed just yet. With my distrust of the medical people right now, I sure hope I don't have it get worse any time soon. Fuck hospitals.

Did they do a MRI? Meniscal injuries are easily diagnosed with imaging. With non-traumatic meniscal injuries, many are managed non-surgically. I would say, given the pain, you should obtain a second opinion. I see these fairly commonly and a GOOD physical exam is paramount in making a shared medical decision with your provider.

My 84 ear old neighbor just had knee replacement and he's walking great.

Hope you dont need it but if so, the surgery has come a long way.

Yes, I've had two MRIs done, last time was before I retired for the military, Kimbrough Army Med Center has a good Physical Therapy department, not convinced the rest of it is that good. Until they give out on me or it starts happening more often I'm not fawking with them.

Sounds like its time to find a real doctor.
Does your current doc look like this guy?

Hopefully you claimed as a VA disability 👍🏾 the military owns all my musculoskeletal injuries, I never let them slide on it. I guess working in that field, I tend to burn a fire under their butts when they give me the run around. I generally keep my mouth shut that I'm a medical professional until they start feeding me BS.

I tried to, my knee problems are well documented in my medical records, when I went to the VA for my disability physical (what ever it's called), I couldn't reproduce the problem, so they denied my claim. They gave me 10% for hearing, and 10% for my back, 20 years of documentation on my back was only good enough for 10%, even though I went though physical therapy off and on for that long. I guess only 10-15 visits for my knees didn't cut it...

That's bullshit. I would get a VSO or VA-specialized lawyer involved. The exam guidelines are clear for VA rating.

Blue ink.
1. Find a blue pen and break it.
2. Rub the ink over the affected area.
3. Take a picture of the affected area.
4. Post that picture here , on the Hide
5. You will never have this problem again.

So simple.

Real doctor here

My advice for the price paid….don’t do that anymore.

Need any more free doctor advice?

Is it locking when bent or straight?

I've had my right knee dislocate itself regularly since I was 8. Finally went to a 'specialist' when I was about 15. Turns out the socket in that knee allows lateral movement and doesn't hold it in the socket like it should. Mine would randomly lock up. Usually when sleeping or when getting into an odd position while right leg bent and twisted inside, think sitting indian style. It would only do this while bent. It locked once when kicking a Hacky Sack using an inside kick. Went the the Urgent Care/ER and they tried to straighten it out but it was so painful they gave up and sent me home. It would generally unlock itself eventually and generally when I relaxed. But this time it wouldn't. I finally figure out that if I pushed down on my knee using my right hand (right knee) and pulled up on the heel using my left hand, I found the 'path' that would unlock the knee. I've only had it lock up a few times since but can unlock it using the method above.

Do knee circles everyday . While standing . Legs together . put hand on each side of your knee's . In sets. rotate in circular motion each direction .
