Alright guys, time for another question. I’ve nearly got my build done, super excited about that. 20” HB Howa .308 in an MDT LSS XL Gen 2. The rifle is going to be my new do all, so I’m looking for a solid scope for hunting out to roughly 350 yards and target shooting out to 800-1000 yards. Here’s my list of requirements:

Mag up to 18x (3-15 or 4-16 seems ideal)
FFP
Zero Stop of some kind, be it factory or DIY.
Not made in China
Price: I’d really like to stay under $1k, preferably lower than that, ($800ish) but I know that’s unrealistic if I want quality.

Those being said, I’m looking for suggestions. I should mention that everything I own is MOA/MOA, so that is where I’m comfortable, but I’m not opposed to going MRAD. Any help would be really appreciated, thank you in advance.

In my opinion, the best is Bushnell 4.5x18 LHRS. A tactical scope with the perfect reticule for hunting. Meets your stated requirements and can be found for less than $1000 now. I have two and have been satisfied with both field and match performance.

I really like the SHV F1. You should be able to find one for 1000ish $ used.
There’s one in the classifieds for close to that, that comes with a 30$ sunshade.

I've got a Vortex Viper HST 4-16x44 that I use for hunting. MOA or MRAD available, I think something like 75 vertical MOA adjustment, costs around 700 I think. I've found it to be a great scope, especially for what you're describing.

That’s alright, I appreciate the suggestion. That scope would be just about perfect if the ffp wasn’t on the list, but I’ve decided that’s the route I want to go with this one. Out of curiosity, does the HST have the zero stop?

It does, of sorts. It uses Vortex's CRS zero stop, which utilizes shims under the turret (inside the turret housing.) They're really easy to use and install, but they do allow you to rotate past zero a couple of clicks. Nothing much, and it varies, but it basically stops the turret and at that point, you rotate back up to zero. So, like I said, it does, of sorts. The Viper PST would fit your requirements I think a bit better, but I don't know that its around the price point.

Thank you for the input, I wasn’t sure if the HST used the CRS system or not. I’ve found some used PST Gen 2s in that price range and I like them, but I don’t want to just jump at the first thing I like either.

Check out Athlon. They've got some great stuff, I know you don't want China made glass but their etr is truly a great piece of glass with great tracking for the money.

As I said before, I LOVE the PST Gen 2. I wouldn't mind a Gen 1 PST either. I have a Vortex scope on another rifle already and absolutely love it. I had forgotten about the Nikon Black FX1000, I got to handle one at a store not too long ago and liked it as well. I have read a lot of good about the Athlon scopes but have never had the chance to handle one or get behind one on a rifle.

I've run vortex pst gen2 and razor before, I can attest the Cronus btr of mine is on par with the gen2 razor glass if not better. turrets are close but not quite LTEC feel. the ETR as mentioned has fantastic turrets and glass better than or equal to the pst gen2 IMO.

This is an Ares Btr mil. The sign is 1 mile away. The letters are 18 inches high. Sorry I didn't have the illumination on but this is full power 27x.

Scopes never look as clear in phone pics. I was able to make out the individual LEDs in the sign with my eye.

I do not think you will be disappointed with the Nikon BLACK FX1000. Great features and price. I have been airing out 2 of them and plan to do some predator elimination with mine in 10 days. Repeatable, clear and accurate FFP with a zero stop, all that you are asking for in a scope.

I have a nikon fx1000 4-16x50 for sale in moa. 500 for the scope 550 for scope, rings and a level burris xtr rings. Tracks great glass is awesome I bought the same one in mil. Now I have 2 and only need 1. Its coming back from the smith should be here this week or early next if you are still looking

The newer Burris XTR II 4-20's are rock solid but be wary of used as some of the older versions had some issues that have since been fixed. The Vortex Viper PST II 3-15x44 is another outstanding performer for the price and has the best reticle of the three IMO. The Tract Toric 4-20x50 has the best glass for resolution and contrast but is a bit on the heavy side and only has plain hash reticles. The PST II is the only one with a decent tree reticle if that is your thing. You should be able to find all these scopes for under $1k with the Burris being the oldest and the one I see discounted the most. I will also agree that the Bushnell ET LRHSi 4.5-18x44 is a fantastic scope, but it is no longer made and the LRTSi which replaces it is a lot more $$$.

PS - I've had all the above scopes and speak from personal experience

Thank you all for your replies and the info. Unfortunately I’ve run into some issues with my truck that I have to get squared away, so this will have to keep waiting for now.
