There’s a plethora of great dovetail mount options in the $400-500 range. It seems like that kind of drops off a cliff though the closer you get to $200. Every once in a while you can find a used AKA2 for sale, but I feel like there has to be a readily available option in the $200 and under category right? (Without going the airsoft route, which I refuse to do). Am I missing some good options in that $200 price range? I’d prefer a FTO mount as well, but I realize beggars can’t be choosers.

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but I heard that you need a screwdriver to release the NVD from the mount with these. Is that true? If so, I don’t see that as a functional option.
Not at all, just slide it all the way forward. The dovetail is also adjustable for wear/fit. If you really don't want to slide the unit forward, you can look for one of the mounts that have the cutout or make a U cut on the plate that covers the latch with a Dremel. I actually like the fact the latch is covered, it protects the lever from accidental disconnects.

It's not FTO, but you can find the Norotos TATM in dovetail for pretty cheap, pair that with the Norotos universal shroud adapter and you're in the sub $200 range. It's what I use as my back up mount.
