Outside of the major cities (which are tiny compared to most states), all the hospitals are owned, staffed and operated by the local government. They’re county or state employees, and they’re the only hospitals around for 100+ miles in most cases. They mean well, most of them anyhow, but they’re under staffed, under funded, poorly managed and poorly equipped. Think the VA, but with no money or political backing. Patients here with anything remotely life threatening are typically put in an ambulance and driven three hours to Casper (the privately run hospital), right past the county hospital in Gillette that’s a full trauma center.
Wyoming is very well known as being the wrong retirement state for anyone who needs to see a doctor more than once a year. Don’t get hurt, don’t get sick, and damn sure don’t have any type of chronic condition, and it’s great. Well, it’s great right up until tourist season and all the city fags show up, but nine months of snowfall keeps that to a minimum.
