Steelhead opened almost a month early here in Washington due to record fish numbers. We can only keep hatchery fish with the adipost fin clipped all wild Steelhead must be released and are not allowed to even be removed from the water. Finally caught my first hatchery fish of the season, I have been a wild fish magnet up until today. This was out of the mouth of the Wenatchee river, right where it meets the Columbia. This fish went 31" and was a ton of fun on light gear in the fast water.

That's a chromer!!! Were you bouncing bottom or under a float? Also, what # main and leader do you run in the big western water?

Adipose fin clip makes more sense to me. The right pectoral is clipped in MI plants. Another dead giveaway is the sanded off flat bottom back fin - from being raised in the concrete pens in Paris, and Honor, MI. Kings are in the GL tribs now. Some coho and an occasional steelies at rivermouths. November 15 is primetime fall steelhead time in MI.

Re: Finally some Steelhead action.

Most of the time a jig under a float, first thing in the morning or on a undisturbed drift I like to throw a 1/3 ounce silver/chrome blue Little Cleo spoon. I try to hit the active fish right away. Then I will switch to a jig and float. I like to get the jig as close to the bottom as possible "Bumping" along the bottom if possible. So I do things ass backwards. I run 8lb leader and 10lb main. So if I hang up, I just loose the jig and not the whole rig.

Re: Finally some Steelhead action.

Nice fish! I tried my luck at the steelies this summer on the Feather river (CA) we fished for 4 or 5 days for several hours a day. didn't catch a single fish!! It was the first time I've gotten skunked since I was a kid. To add insult to injury, I had to buy the CA non-res liscence, AND a steelhead report card. spent like 60 bucks for nothin. Oh well, thats California for me.
Keep up the good fishin.
