I believe the first post I had on here asking about how to go about doing a custom build was 3-4 years ago. Then after making up my mind on what I wanted, started the process off by waiting five months on a group buy (Surgeon RSR action). This was followed by a 22 month stretch where I was in-between jobs (during which the gunsmith was gracious enough to put things on hold no questions asked). Then didn't have enough money for glass until SWFA had its Facebook promotion and well... I finally got her out this morning for the first time!

She's built by Harold Fredd, who I cannot recommend more highly as a smith. Patient, knowledgable, and produces laser-like rifles. Big thank you to him for working with me on this.

Stats:

Mike Rock M-40 profile barrel: 24" with 11.27" twist
Surgeon Rifles RSR action
B&C Tactical stock
Badger detachable magazine with 5-round AI magazine
Jewel trigger set at 2lbs
Harris bipod.

Topped off with an SWFA 5-20x50 using Seekins rings.

She's very heavy... perhaps 14-15 pounds?

Shot 10 5-shot groups with 168gr FGMM. Sunny, 90 degrees, very little wind. Self taught shooter, though the vast part of my experience has been M4 carbines and Glocks for past 16 years, hence much of this is new to me. I'm very happy with my results, but know I can improve as I had a lot of things I need to work on: trigger finger was incorrectly positioned on trigger, I lost sight picture and had to readjust my cheekweld / re-find the target after every single shot, and finally I was using my left fist under the stock and it was causing the reticle to bounce with every heartbeat. [BTW, running the bolt without shifting your head from the scope/target -- that looks a lot easier than it actually is!]

Lots for me to still learn, but looking forward to it. At least I know I can't use the rifle as an excuse anymore...

Finally, the SWFA scope is crystal clear, and while I couldn't make a direct comparison as I sold off my Nightforce scopes, it seemed to me every bit as good. Very happy with the glass.

Re: First custom .308, three+ yrs after starting!

Congratulations on the build. That is a very nice looking rifle.

Did he or somebody paint the B&C stock? I don't think I have ever seen that pattern before.

Great shooting.

Re: First custom .308, three+ yrs after starting!

Thanks guys.

Eclipse - the camo is called NaturalGear, and was a pattern offered directly from B&C several years ago. They apparently discontinued it. And Surgeon doesn't even sell the RSR anymore. This rifle was "obsolete" before I ever shot it!

Congratulations on a very nice build. Glad you made it through the drought. Now go shoot it, and have some fun.

Very nice looking rifle and your smith obviously did a fine job of putting the parts together very well. You're giving me hope that all my parts will come in some day and I, too, will join the ranks here.

Great Looking/Shooting Rifle!!! I hardly think it's "Obsolete" by any means!!! It shows a lot of hard work and persistence behind the build. With all the effort and time you put behind it I'd say this rifle is Very Special! Not to mention that B&C Stock Pattern Looks Freaken AWESOME!!! I wonder why then stop makiing it like that, I'd bet I'm not the only one that'll love to see it return as a option on here. Congrats and Have Fun!!!
