Was just reported that the SRO at the Florida school stood outside instead of entering the building during the school shooting. Video of it is in possession of the sherrif.

Had that SRO gone in and started hunting the killer down, chances are things would have turned out differently, they may have gotten wounded or killed, but most likely lots of others would still be alive. If they had done that, the SRO would have had a chance to be though of / remembered as a hero.

Lots of idiots can shoot MSRs, but way fewer of them know what to do or how to react when it becomes a two way range & they are being hunted. In almost all cases, when one of these mass killer villains is confronted by active armed aggressive respondents, their plans come to an abrupt halt rather quickly.

2) HS Chem teacher: Vietnam vet...all around bad ass

Oh boy, you just stepped on a mother fucking land mine. First my wife is a teacher. The local Sheriff does a 28 hour active shooter training for school employees only (trust me I tried). Involves many aspects of which include shooting 300 rounds on the sheriff's private range.

Here is the deal. There was a video shown of the Florida shooting that everyone pitched a mother fucking fit about. It was in a class room and the shooter was right outside the door. All the students where under their desks like it was some damn cold war nuke drill. What in the Fuck??? If that door comes open it is "fish in a barrel time"

I do NOT expect my wife nor any teacher to go running down the halls Ala'Rambo style. But when that door gets kicked in I expect my wife and any other teacher to fight back. AKA shoot back.

Ask yourself if your kid was in that classroom would you want someone, ANYONE to have a gun.

Wife's school policy is to lock the class room door and move children as far away from door as possible. Then pray to God because that is all you got. Sheriff teaches that every case is different/dynamic and that if you think you can get the kids out safely then screw the school district. The District's instructions are what best protect the district, not the children.

my brother would be a good candidate. He has almost always seemed to have the right mindset, is a very good shooter and with the proper training I think would be an asset instead of another target. No doubt he could safely carry now but I think he would benefit from targeted training.

I look at schools much like an airplane. We should have the equivalency of Air Marshalls, provided the teacher volunteers and can keep their mouth shut about being one. I would like to see real fucking training, involving mindset, situational awareness, advanced firearm handling, shooting, movement, tactics, etc. Maybe a full summer course, 5 days a week, drilling. Weed out those that drop or are lacking in ability.

Maybe I expect too much, but how important are out kids?

I am was raised in central Jersey, ever male teacher in my 12 years was a veteran most all of them Army and Marines, surprising that there were that many Marines that could read, yet there they were teaching me.

Many many teachers have been shot and killed in these incidents, every one of them were shielding their students, even the UVA professor. Arm them and give them a fighting chance, most will take care of their kids once the paternal instinct kicks in.

My late wife for one. I can name a few more who worked with her.
Not every teacher today is a mouth foaming socialist. It only takes a few socialist bullies to set policy. There are some good teachers, but they don't have enough support where it counts.

Question for all the guys that had ex-Mil teachers: how long ago was this?
I'm sure there are gun owning conservative teachers out there these days but the percentage of them vs. the hippies is extremely low to non existent anywhere I've looked. I have a bunch of teachers in my family as well as some buddies whose wives are teachers. They are all some of the nicest people I've met. They also need counseling when they run over a squirrel. They wet themselves when a door slams. One of them cried for days when her husband revealed that a pump shotgun had been safely hidden in the basement for years. Another cried for hours when her husband bought a G42. She's not anti gun though, its just that they live in town so police are always nearby to do the tough stuff.
