Suppressors Form 4 wait time

Silencerco hybrid check cashed in March of 2021. Call weekly at this point, still not even assigned to an examiner. Last week when I called the lady I talked to was helpful and told me whe would put a note in the system and forward it to a supervisor since it's been almost 18 months without being assigned to an examiner and if I don't hear anything by the end of this week to call back. We'll it's over a week later and I called back and gave my info, and relayed everything I was told last week. Instantly the lady had such a bad attitude and said "I don't know why she would tell you that, it's against protocol. I don't know why she would tell you to call back if you haven't heard anything." I told her it's probably because it's been 18 months and it's starting to seem like you guys lost my paper form 4. And she has the worst attitude and said "sir just because it hadn't been assigned, doesn't mean it isn't processing." Like uhhh what... and then she said have a nice day and hung up on me. I'm in Idaho if anyone has any insight or knows who I should contact in my state. I'm not really sure how to go about it at this point. 18 months seems way above average without being assigned to an examiner, but I could be wrong.

I think people are confused about what the terms the ATF uses mean. I'm definitely no expert, but it seems to me that it goes something like this:

Pending: everything until an examiner is actually looking at it.
Assigned: they're reviewing your shit
Approved: they're done reviewing your shit

The background check happens somewhere in pending I think, because the ATF has to check shit after the FBI does the background check.

Again, this is all just speculation based on seeing and paying attention to a lot of these. Guys will go from not assigned to stamp in hand within a week. They don't want to make any kind of clear communications because it will just show more how fucked up they are.

I know it doesn't help at all, and doesn't really matter in the bigger scheme of things but if it's stuck on the background check, I've had a secret clearance for the last 8 years of my life and I've bought 4 or 5 firearms since I've submitted form 4

I'm sitting at 178 days with an eForm 4. I called yesterday and was told, "good news, you are still pending. It shouldn't be too long now." The worst part is that I purchased the can from Silencer Shop on November 1, 2021. They held my paperwork until mid-February then informed me to submit using eForms because it was only take around 90 days. I hope my other can that I certified in June takes less time o_Oo_O

Same boat here, except my dealer was an idiot and couldn't do anything without me telling them what to do. Bought cans in November, finally certified on April 2nd. Still waiting.

I've got one on paper from september, so at this point it about an even race to see who gets home first.

i called my congress woman last friday. she sent me the atfs response today.

eForm , control #, was received on 03-17-2022. As of 03-17-2022, the application is PENDING.

The current average processing time for a eForm 4 is 160 days with a proceeded background check. Understanding that Mr. Cabe is anxious to have her applications approved, we ask that he remain patient. The NFA Division is processing applications as efficiently and effectively as possible considering the sheer number of applications they continue to receive weekly. The NFA Division continues to diligently handle applications in the order received.

interpret however you will.
as a side note, ATF seems to have a issue with using the proper pronouns. or maybe just covering all the bases so as not to offend. lol

I carried a TS clearance for 10 yrs with special above. doesn't mean anything to them.

Yup, it sounds like the “background check” is the same thing that would be done in 5 minutes or less over the phone buying a gun at the store. It just takes forever because there’s like a dozen people doing form 4s in a semi random order.

Well, and they are in west Virginia so they undoubtedly have to take banjo breaks, and vacations to see their cousins marry each other.

Hey Sam, Appreciate you sharing, applications are going from "ordered placed" to "certified" in about a week, we'll send a DM to you about your timeline. - Chase

In the same boat brother. Good luck this shit is bullshit. “They are just flooded with too many forms” “don’t blame them they are working around the clock.” Call your congressman” fuck that send me my stamps and my cans” “I’m tempted to buy another and Eform it Friday so I can see how that sucks.

I just put a SOCOM Mini 2 in jail on an eForm and was told average wait for an eForm is now 180 days. In other words, no difference in time between paper or electronic. It's absolute BS.

Call your congressman...all of them. Congressional investigations are required to be answered within 24 hours. At least that's how it worked in the Army...back then.

I’m at 152 and 102 days in for mine, efile. This doesn’t hold a candle to some of your wait times.

Just wrote my congressman who is actually pro 2A. Let’s see if anything happens.

Update. A staffer reached out to me with a consent form. They are sending over the inquiry to the ATF today.
Nobody reached out to me. Guess I'll have to resend it.
