Now, I don't have a crystal ball or any insight into the Form 4 processing aside from my personal experience which also included engaging a constituent service staffer of my Federal Senator and the replies from both ATF and FBI and how I got it resolved.checked cashed on mine on march 18, 21 i called yesterday and left message.
Now, I don't have a crystal ball or any insight into the Form 4 processing aside from my personal experience which also included engaging a constituent service staffer of my Federal Senator and the replies from both ATF and FBI and how I got it resolved.
But, I would bet some large green that Form 4's that are held up far beyond the current processing backlog, as is yours, are caught up in a DELAY by the FBI's ATF NICS Transaction department.
No telling why some are put on DELAY. But the AFT, once they actually fucking look at your submittal, sends a NICS transaction to the FBI's section that handles ATF requests for background checks.
If there is any issue whatsoever, neither the ATF nor the FBI seem to give a flying fuck and will do nothing to clear it up nor will they even tell you its detailed status. All you get from the AFT is "Pending" which means fuck all.
If you are put on DELAY by the FBI, you have zero process for recourse. If you are DENIED, there is an appeal process. DELAY....you are in purgatory.
Why can a NICS check, in response to an ATF Form 4 request, is put on DELAY is anybody's guess. Could be there is someone else with your name out there who has some sort of FBI file and they can't determine if its you or them. Could be that its just sitting under a box of donuts on someone's desk.
The later is my guess at what happened to mine. Senator's office pinged the ATF who came back and actually provided some useful information....to wit, that I had been on DELAY with the FBI NICS for months (and yes, nobody seems to have any responsibility to actually tell you this so you can work to clear it up). The AFT merely told my Senator's office to advise me to contact the FBI....all 35,000 of them? Sigh.
For the average citizen, there is no help desk number for FBI NICS and in particular the section that handles ATF transactions. All you can do is request your FBI file (needs fingerprint card and $$ if I remember correctly...its on their website) and see what's in it that is holding your background check up. Chances are, you don't have an FBI file with any derogatory information in it.
In my case, I found a help desk email for the UPIN (unique personal identifier number) team. I explained that I understood that this does not fall under their team's responsibility but perhaps they could tell me who I could contact as I have absolutely ZERO FBI file to the best of my knowledge. I attached all relevant documentation and correspondence.
I was lucky and hit the jackpot and actually got a live wire in the UPIN team who responded the very next day. He/She told me that they reached out to the supervisor of the NICS ATF Transaction section and that my NICS check was "recently approved and a PROCEED was sent back to the AFT".
I thanked them profusely and asked "by the by, what does "recently" mean exactly and was told "yesterday when I asked about it".
Yeah, those are our fucking tax dollars at work....our local ATF apologist nothwithstanding (look back in this thread and you will see who I'm talking about...I'm not tagging this shithead as I don't want to hear any more of his BS).
So, suddenly my Form 4 was broke free and my FFL got my stamp...oh, about two weeks after prying my background check out of the FBI.
Personally, I intend to file for a UPIN. Again, finger prints and $$.
I have never been put on DELAY before COVID and I've been put on DELAY for every NICS check since. But here's the kicker, they call my FFL back....been anywhere from an hour or so to 15 fucking minutes...and provide an approval. My FFL, who is a way cool gal, told me that they used to have actual examiners answer the phone and if there was any confusion or issue (like someone with same name but different DOB, SS #, state of residence, etc) they would clear it up instantly (yeah, that's what the I stands for in NICS). She tells me now they have people who just answer the phone and if the computer chokes on anything at all, it goes to DELAY and sent to an examiner who apparently actually has a bit of grey matter and can look at the details, your FBI file (if any actually exists), etc.
This process is not only fucked by incompetence and flawed bureaucratic process, you really have no recourse for due process and some shithead civil servant deprives you of your 2A rights.
Yes, I'm not a fan of the Federal government.
Hope this is helpful....made me feel better to vent about it all! hahaha
Best of luck and I advise you to contact your Federal representative's office and initiate an inquiry. Remember, stay POLITE and COURTEOUS at all times and don't use the profanity or express the contempt that I did in this post on the Hide. Pissing them off won't help.
Cheers

What ever you want...its your can. But I live in the communist state of Maryland where all our Senators and all Representatives (except one on the rural eastern shore) are dyed in the wool socialists. Its doesn't matter, they all have constituent service weenies to handle these type of inquiries.I am in Michigan and my state representative is a Democrat, I doubt she will help out. I don't think I am on the FBI's watch list and I doubt my last name will be confused with someone else's. It's a long polish name that people seem to not be able to pronounce. I feel I shouldn't have to contact a representative for this bullshit, I will have to research more in the process. Maybe ATF will come knock down my door blow me away make a cover up and you guys can make a conspiracy about it.
I don't think there is anyone more impatient on the Hide than me. So when my efile hit four months I hesitatingly contacted my Representative. At first I thought, people have been waiting 1+ years, maybe it's just the way it is and I need to just wait it out. But then I thought this shit should not take more than a week tops. And by not putting pressure on the ATF, we are complicit in their inexcusable delays. So I contacted my Rep and they contacted the ATF. My Rep then contacted the FBI to check on my NICS status. I also used the email you provided to contact the FBI. Within a week I received my approval. Was it a coincidence? Maybe, but I seriously doubt it.What ever you want...its your can. Or just wait....and wait....and wait. Its up to you but processing time for paper form 4 is definitely NOT 18 months.
Cheers
"90 days" is the new "2 weeks"
Hey Charger442, yeah that is inline with what we have been seeing, 1-2 weeks on average. - Chase
Efile submitted to ATF 2/24/2022 aka approved today 9/21/2022, SS Trust (209 day wait).
Efile submitted to ATF 3/9/2022 aka 196 days and waiting SS Trust.
Hey Charger, most Form 3s are approved in less than 14 days from what we've seen, some in 2 days, some in 2 weeks. So what is it? 7 days or 14 days is the average so you're seeing 7 days and seeing 21 days also?
Awesome to hear you got your approval, congrats, stefan73. Which can was this one for? - ChaseEfile submitted to ATF 2/24/2022 aka approved today 9/21/2022, SS Trust (209 day wait).

Form 4 Trust
Dead Air Mask
Check Cashed 8/18/21
I called ATF to check on things in late August and got the still pending reply. I'm not getting any younger and I've paid the tax stamp and have nothing to show for it. Got in touch with my congressman on 8-2-2022 and gave them all the info requested so they could contact ATF or whomever on my behalf. As of 9-20-22 nothing. I'll be calling my Senator tomorrow.
.338 Lapua on a Sako TRG-42 for the TBAC.The Turbo K is awesome, great choice, it was actually on our Top 5 5.56 suppressors for 2022 list.
You can't go wrong with YHM, they make awesome products, the Resonator R2 has a near-perfect rating.
We don't get ETA's on restocking, but you can sign up for the notification and it will email you once they come in, or you could try calling your local Powered by Silencer Shop Dealers, they may have some in their inventory. What host are you thinking about the TBAC for?

Just called to check on these. 8/20/21 application was approved on 9/20/22. They said “Allow forty five days to receive the approved stamp” I know the postal service sucks but damn…The aft is so efficient…
Two cans
Efile certified 3/15/22 188 days still waiting…
One can
Paper application
Cashed 8/20/21 388 days still waiting…
So much for shorter wait times!
This was filed as a paper application before eform 4s were accepted. That being said you have to have the approved forms in hand to possess the item. If your item was filed as an eform 4 you will receive an approval email and can then go pick up your item. Can you pick up your suppressor once it’s approved, or do you need the physical stamp in hand? I thought I read they attach a copy of it to the approval email and that could be used.
U7 are nice. I have oneSubmitted July 31, 2021

Getting impatient... Feel like a starving carnivorous predator salivating at a steak in a glass cage you can't get.
Waiting on Silencer Central to get paperwork. I guess?? I know the ATF has 45 days, but still!
Tbac Ultra 7
First suppressor. Hoping it's worth the wait/hype. Must be, otherwise others wouldn't torcher themselves like this.
What exactly do you email your representative when doing this? You can also PM me as well if you want. I would like to have a reference for when I hit the 4 month mark next month.I don't think there is anyone more impatient on the Hide than me. goto their webpage and fill out form then check box that states government issues. What exactly do you email your representative when doing this? You can also PM me as well if you want. I would like to have a reference for when I hit the 4 month mark next month.
Im not the person you quoted, but I filled out their contact us form on their website. A staffer contacted me with a form I needed to fill out that authorized them to make an inquiry on my behalf. It’s been over 2 weeks since they sent it to the atf and they haven’t heard anything back. I followed up with the staffer yesterday and they were following up with them on it again. What exactly do you email your representative when doing this? You can also PM me as well if you want. I would like to have a reference for when I hit the 4 month mark next month.
Like someone mentioned, go to your Reps website and they should have a form you can fill out online requesting assistance with a government agency. They will then send you some forms you'll need to fill out and send back. I was told the ATF usually will respond to them within 10 business days. That's how it went for me at least. What exactly do you email your representative when doing this? You can also PM me as well if you want. I would like to have a reference for when I hit the 4 month mark next month.
You are correct, @Diesel79. For eForm's you can pick up the suppressor once you get the approval email, for paper forms the ATF mails the approved form to your dealer, this takes up to 45 days. - ChaseCan you pick up your suppressor once it’s approved, or do you need the physical stamp in hand? I thought I read they attach a copy of it to the approval email and that could be used.
