9 months, wow. Who was the examiner?

Guess the days of appoved in under a month are long gone, kind of takes the fun out of it, when our money is tied up for so long and we have nothing to show for it.

Very quiet on my AAC 9" upper with SW ammo Subs. Loudest thing I hear is my buffer spring.

No to both questions. I think they probably get a LOT of calls. If you're polite, have your serial numbers handy they'll look up the info and tell you right away, no one has to dig around in a pile somewhere for a chart, it's all on computers, which is interesting as hell because if that's really the case, then transfers should be done at point of sale for previous buyers.

Just be nice, polite, keep in mind thee are your every day ordinary entrenched socialist bureaucratic public education victims just doing their job, not making policy..

Congratulations.

Re: Form 4 wait time

I was recently advised by my gun dealer whom I ordered my suppressor from, that if you call the atf to check your status of form 4 process, your paperwork goes to the bottom of the list again.

Allegedly this is what an atf employee who is a form 4 reviewer told said gun dealer. Reasoning is supposed to be that he who calls to check their status wastes their valuable time therefore he goes to the bottom as sort of a screw you penalty.

true? false? just what I was told and thought id pass it along.

B.S. I've called on just about every one of mine, they didn't take much longer than other peoples. I have a slow examiner anyway,,,

The people who answer the phone are not the examiners who I wouldn't call unless they called me which has happened in the past. If you have your serial number and name they will give you the pending status and examiners name - be respectful to them as they are doing a job too and they will be respectful back to you. It has nothing to do with when the Forms are approved; however, if you called weekly I am sure you could get a name for yourself.

Re: Form 4 wait time

Finally!!!

Form 4:
-mailed 6/30/11
-pending 7/15/11
-approved 12/16/11
-in hand 12/22/11

Interesting bit: my examiner was Jason Frushour. However, on the form is Ted Clutter's signature. And my SOT says he has yet to receive a single form from Frushour. Looks like Mr Clutter had to step in and get the backlog taken care of.

Its hard to get any work done when your gone all the time.

Some one said he was gone 3 weeks out of the last 8 weeks.
Factor in breaks and Bull S### time getting in late to work and leaving early to make up for it. Its just really hard to be an examiner.

I don't know.... but I keep tabs on him as he is my examiner also.
He will not be back to work till second week of January.

I have a can that should be approved by him any time.....But time just keeps moving at a snails pace.

Being that you are in CO was Jason Frushour your examiner? Just curious beause of the change the NFA branch had back in July.

Re: Form 4 wait time

What's the odds on when my form 4's will get approved with the holidays and vacations? I see that the ones that went pending mid July are being approved now. My 30P-1 and Sparrow went pending mid August. I wonder if I'll see them approved around this time next month. I've got a feeling that it will be around the end of Febuary knowing how fast the gov works.

Re: Form 4 wait time

I picked up my SAS Arbitor today. The paperwork went out mid-July.

The TTB called about two weeks ago because I neglected to fill out the fingerprint card (name, SSN, etc-----brilliant), all I could picture was my stuff going back to the bottom of the pile. Luckily that wasn't the case.

Today was my first time using a suppressor. I'm still smilin' :^) Ziiiiiiiiinnnnnng SMACK

If anyone's in the Morgantown, WV area and looking for a dealer, Colsman Arms provides some great customer service!

Re: Form 4 wait time

This was not for a suppressor (HK auto sear) what a wait.

Purchased: 3/08/2011
Form 4 sent from original owner: 3/17/2011
Form 4 transfer to dealer approved: 7/07/2011
My form 4 sent on a trust: 7/11/2011
Pending: 7/28/2011
Approved: 12/27/2011
Received: 1/03/2012
Examiner: Jason Frashour

With the holidays, I'm amazed to get this approved in the week between Christmas and New Years.

Re: Form 4 wait time

[Rant on]

Guys, I thought I would make your day. I have just completed paying for another suppressor from a group buy here on the hide. I am looking at having the suppressor sometime in September, October or possibly November. I am allowing January and February for the first Form 3 from the manufacturer to the Hide dealer; March and April for the Form 3 to transfer from the Hide dealer to my dealer in state. With any luck I will see a Form 4 in April but probably May. Then the wait for the Form 4 for May, June, July, August, September and October.

Doesn't it just make you sick. Almost like trying to buy a car in Russia during the height of the communist era.

Now for the fun part. The current governmental administration says they are NOT doing anything to restrict owning these items.

Just for grins, I looked at mine and friends last four Form 4 purchases for processing times. Here's what I found:

Signed by Local Dealer: March 17
Signed by Owner: March 17
Signed by Police Chief: March 21
Approved by BATFE: July 19
(124 days from purchase to approval)

Signed by Local Dealer: November 19
Signed by Owner: November 19
Signed by Police Chief: November 28
Approved by BATFE: February 7
(80 days from purchase to approval)

Signed by Local Dealer: May 8
Signed by Owner: May 8
Signed by Police Chief: May ?
Approved by BATFE: July 1
(54 days from purchase to approval)

Signed by Local Dealer: April 4
Signed by Owner: April 6
Signed by Police Chief: April 23
Approved by BATFE: May 16
(42 days from purchase to approval)

The first was 2003.
The second was 2005/2006.
The third was 2006.
And the fourth was 2007.

The average was 75 days per transaction. I currently have two From 4s being processed. Their information is:

Signed by Local Dealer: June 25
Signed by Owner: June 25
Signed by Police Chief: July 27 (Even they are slowing down)
Approved by BATFE: January 23, 2012
(211 days from purchase to approval)

I can only hope that somewhere along the way the BATFE gets more efficient and/or hires more examiners to do something about these long approval times.

[Rant off] Not yet but I did settle down a little bit.

Edited to add approval date.

Re: Form 4 wait time

The wait now begins for me. Dealer signed on 12/31/11, fingerprints and photos on 1/2/12, Chief of police signature on 1/3/12, and dropped in the mail for its journey 1/4/12. Dealer states roughly 4-5 months is the wait he's been seeing. So i'm hoping to have before the scorching Texas summer heat kicks in.

Re: Form 4 wait time

I was so pumped whn i paid for it. Picked up a SAS Arbiter from the folks as mile high. Paid my local dealer on 10/28, still not ot my state yet i dont think. Does it usually take 2 months + to get to another state?

Ii was figuring on 3-4 months for the form 4, but fromt he posts here that may be a bit longer huh?

Re: Form 4 wait time

Talking with TBAC the other day and dealer to dealer is 45 plus days now , waiting on my 338BA to ship , and the local dealer said form 4's are at 6 months or longer . Going to keep getting worse since 2 examiners left and the rumor is there are no plans to replace them .
