Suppressors Form 4 wait time

Last batch that came in was sent March 2018 and a arrived September. So I was hoping the 6 month turn around was a new trend, but I had a SBR due in November and it’s still pending. Of course the shutdown didn’t help, but it looks like we’re back to 8-9 months.

5 waiting in jail.....

My buddy sent his individual form 4 in March 2018. Still waiting. I did mine November 2018 so I didn't expect it until after 9 months before we had the shutdown. No idea now. My dealer in November said they were running 7-9 months.

What a way to start off your day. This pisses me off to no end.

Yikes still waiting since March?? Well he's right on the cusp of 9 months, hopefully it'll be one of the first to go out now that they're back to work.

Called just now, and they even took the option to speak with someone off the menu. They said now you have to send an email.. basically now it’s just press 1 if you’re law enforcement.

Press 1. Say this is Officer Miller, badge #1305, NYC PD, precinct 18. They be like wait a second, ain’t no guns in NYC. Click. hahaha. Hey at least it would lighten the afternoon!

Guys, we need to be a little patient. They’re just getting back to work today so they’ll probably have this email thing up for s few days while they get things back up and running. Kinda like I do when I’ve been off work for a week or two and then leave my “out of office” on the first day back just so I can get caught up on in peace. Hopefully they get rocking and cranking these things out.

I was also under the impression that they hired more people that were supposed to start here at the beginning of the year?

For real! It’s not like they are going to say, “Oh hey Mr. Brandon, it’s you. Yes sir, I am moving you to the front of the pile and your can will be approved tomorrow!” You going to be waiting regardless, might as well just suck it up and deal with it.

Two items check cashed late May 2018 single person trust a Silencerco Maxin9 9mm integral pistol and a FNC 5.56 MG. Been pending since June I assume a few more months of waiting ahead. Sure wish I had sent those in earlier. PG

I find myself pretty impatient when it comes to infringement, especially 11 months of infringement. #everygunlawisaninfringement

Got my first Maxim back in Sept after 6 months waiting, 2nd one is overdue by a month and add the 34 days backlog too. :(

You'll certainly enjoy it tho when you get it! Current bedside pistol and a fun conversation piece at the range.

I figure to hold off on the phone call as long as possible. The more phone calls they get, the less time they spend on processing the approvals.

Based on my conversation with atf supervisor these functions are completely separate. The folks who answer calls are there for that purpose only.

Having said that, with no one answering calls we are seeing something completely different than we saw even during pre & post the 41 f crush,(To my knowledge)or even during the shutdown itself. So I am simply stating a plausable theory.

I still maintain that the ATF is on a charm offensive for whatever reasons during the Trump administration. During one of my calls simply saying a couple of nice things and mentioning that I am a 2A activist resulted in a supervisor asking to speak with me and a great 35 min conversation.

If they don’t answer it does not matter if you call. If they do, they have a group of folks back dedicated to the phones again.

This is a 2A right that takes 7- 12 months. Being able to call in and check is really the very least we can expect. For me this takes some of the sting out of it. Try calling some of the other government organizations out there and their norm is what we see right now w/ the atf. You might as well jump into a black hole looking for light.....

The government is only funded for 3 weeks, do not forget that.

Yep, I fear Trump has lost this one and our extended wait is for nothing. Not happy with the “great deal-maker” right now. This should have been taken care of before the midterms. Same with HPA and National CCW reciprocity. For the next two years the Democrats have one mandate: Stymie Trump. All they have to do is say “no” untill 2020.

All,
This whole process isnt static. We should all be aware that an average is the ideal, but cannot be seen as the norm. Things will happen. After this shut down is all over, the reported average will go from 7 months to 10 months. That will be the new norm and what people will be anticipated turn around time.
It's tough that we are dealing with this now. I have 2 cans on hold and would love to have them tomorrow. That's not at all realistic. We all know going in that this will take time. I'm sure we were all told when we purchased the can that we should just forget that we bought one. It's approved when its approved. And it's not like you cant still go shoot. If hearing is a concern, pm me and I'll send you some 3 cent ear plugs. You'll pay for shipping!

So let me ask, based on above you'd be okay with buying a house, paying for it in full, and then waiting anywhere from 6 - 15 months for the sale to be recorded before you are able to take possession and move in?

Obviously pushing it to the limits here, but in essence is pretty much what is going on with the ATF.

Yes, see my post fro earlier. That was nice me. What I really want to say is that this crapshouid be removed from the NFA. There is zero reason for suppressors to be on there. Zero. As for the 2A, it’s already gone man, infringement went on and got out of hand a long time ago and it’s not going to be corrected in the current system, especially when the democrats win in 2020. If Trump doesn’t do some major corrections, and fast, he is no doubt a one termer.

If we could get large gun companies or hell just every gun related company to give the finger to the man, all at once then we might have a chance at course correction. I’m not sure what that looks like but it’s a start. At the end of the day the dealers, stores, manufacturers and so on are the ones that uphold the laws. Good thing we are all law abiding peeps or many infringements would have been corrected a long time ago.

Fixed that last sentence of the first paragraph for you!

As far as how an individual deals with the wait I think it should be up to the individual. For me it’s a horse race ?. I make it fun by watching the trends and events then looking at my past stamps then making educated predictions. I make it a game and I rather enjoy it that way. This is why I keep doing it. When the stamp comes in I get a huge high, like my horse just won big.

From the standpoint of 2A I think everyone should be on pins and needles about this process. This is a 2A right and I think the more folks paying close meticulous track of it the better. An enumerated right that was just deemed “ non-essential” BTW....... Quite frankly we should be on fire about that alone here. ? Also why are form 1s available to do online w/ much faster turn arounds. So if you build a suppressor its as low as 1 month but 10 if you buy???

I don’t think we we are at all well served by sheeping off to a ? stall and putting a hood over our heads. This does not mean we have to be assholes to the ATF on the phone. In fact I always tell folks to put on your charm offensive when calling.

From an admin point of view, keeping track of your form in process will likely inform you if something has gone wrong in a sea of applications. I’ve heard of some weird things that have gone on with folks who never check only to find out something like the stamp was lost in the mail or the dealer never sent in the paperwork etc.

My rule , settle in , have fun with it, keep track......in otherwords trust but verify.

Like all of you here I would like to see the ATF disappear and have ZERO regulation for firearms. It would be nice to be able to buy full auto weapons and suppressors online and have them sent right to our doors.

That's probably not going to happen anytime soon. All we can do is complain about it but if you don't vote or don't contact your elected representatives then don't complain.

I realize that there are some here that will tell me that "it doesn't do any good to vote or call my representative, cause they are going to do whatever they want anyway."

That maybe true but don't forget, that a lot of folks have suffered, been maimed or died just so we could have that right to address our elected representatives. I am not going to forget that.

I want this to change as much as the next guy. I'm waiting on ten tax stamps. So, I have a right to complain like everyone else.

Blowing off steam is healthy but too much steam can exacerbate a person's anger or melancholy.

So whenever, I get aggravated with the waiting, I just thank God that I'm physically able to shoot and enjoy the outdoors. I'm thankful that I don't have to live with anymore evil witches that have tried to ruin my life and take all my money.

I live by myself now with all the serene silence that goes with it. Only the noise of gunfire on a nice day at the range interrupts that cheerful silence. I sleep well at night, now that I don't have a 120 pound block of ice next to me.

To summarize, I'm glad that I can now afford those suppressors. Sure I wanted them yesterday but I will get them eventually. I'm glad there are no evil witches living with me that will tell me that I cannot have any toys that go bang or the things that muffle the bang.

Point taken, but yes, the limits are being pushed. But to use your house example, it happens for anyone who builds their own house. Larger custom houses can take 12 to 16 months or more. Or building a Ferrari. I worked with clients who waited 2 to 3 years for their cars after being paid in full. Imagine dropping 300k on a car and not seeing it for 3 years.
The point I am trying to make is that waiting comes with the territory when you live in the shooting world. Ask people waiting for a custom gun to be made.
I waited 3 years to piece together my first custom. That was from when I bought the first part to when I pulled the trigger.
Cans are a luxury. Waiting is part of that luxury.

If all gun owners got their head out of their asses and the sand, we would be an unstoppable force. Folk misunderstand politics. A well motivated cohesive voter block is how the battle is won. But instead it's "oh well. when its war" and a bunch of other excuses. Then when things turn, it's panic buying and making gun and ammo folks rich.

This is a terrible analogy ^^^

People on this forum regularly pay in-full for delayed gratification on actions, full builds, SHOT show items, etc. Most people waited longer for an ARC Nucleus than the current ATF wait time.

Terrible analogy^^^^

They pay for an item then wait for the item, NOT for permission from the government. Big freakin difference.

Well seems as though the only thing they are doing is cashing checks no approvals figures

Well, they have to groceries somehow

You are aware that was 235 years ago and a lot has changed to make us much softer in the intervening years!

How does it go? Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away... I put the chance of them not getting back pay at something slightly less than us going back to muskets.

There is absolutely no correlation between “delayed gratification” and a unreasonably delayed enumerated constitutional right .....

Like it or not, we agreed that the waiting came with the territory.
We could all keep our money in our pockets until the laws change. And maybe one day the process will get easier and quicker.
Which wait seems most logical?

“Complying” and “agreeing “ two completely different matters.

I never agreed to the NFA.
I never agreed that a muffler should be part of the NFA
I never agreed the process we are forced to undertake be deemed “non essential” while the government spats.
I never agreed to not discuss timelines, projections, procedures and other matters pertaining to this foolishness in a forum named “Suppressors” in a thread titled “Form 4 Wait Time.

No sorry I will not go sheepishly into the night.....

Yes I did comply ......while gritting my teeth.

Oh and I dont blame the ATF. Its not their fault they were deemed “nonessential”. We supposedly have a 2A adminstration that just forced them to rule bump-stocks as illegal.

The thing that disturbs me most is how little gun folks seem to be upset about these matters. The ones that are vocal are told they should ? sheep off to their stall and wait quietly......wtf?

I think we are all saying the same thing.
We may or may not 'agree' with it but it does not change the fact that we all have to deal with waiting.
