Suppressors Form 4 wait time

Glad you lived in housing. But do you know what happened in 2019?

I just finished watching the 3 mile island Netflix special. I guess that's different too
You should read about the Santa Susanna nuclear coverup/scandal which was much worse than the 3 mile island episode.

Check cashed 3/12/21
Called about 3 weeks ago at essentially a year to the date since check cashed and still pending. Called again today, on hold for 38 minutes, and still pending. Coming up on a year and a month.....This is bullshit

Called ATF again
6/8/22 - Coming up on 1 year and 3 months, still pending with no reviewer assigned to my form 4
Anybody have a spare bottle of vasoline I can borrow since the ATF apparently is not going to let up bending me over?

I talked to the ATF about the schedule on one of mine. He said it was delayed because I already had several and that raised a flag. Several were Form 1s. Go figure.
That’s bs just like getting delayed if you purchase to many firearms in a year…. Seems unlawful since there is no limit on how many can be owned and it’s actually a Right!

Seems like 3-4 months from app submittal
Some people are still getting less
Than 90 days but
100-120 seems to be the average I’ve seen on here
So if your close to 3 months from app submitted your close could be any day
Definitely a lot faster than the year+ average people are
Seeing on the paper form4’s

Sucks for all the people that did paper form4’s who weren’t told about the efile coming up.
No...what sucks is the assholes at the ATF not processing earlier submitted paper forms until they work off their atrocious backlog BEFORE moving to more recently submitted e-file forms.

The ATF sucks in pretty much every way.

So, where did our ATF apologist go...hmm?

Form 4 eForm submitted beginning of February and approved today 6/13/22.

Correction:
Gunshop drafted my eForm mid February but actually submitted it 3/18/22. I also made my account with eForms mid February.

I'm surprised it took so long for somebody to tell me to shut up 🙂
I am officially past 15 months, and my form 4 still has not even been assigned to a reviewer.

Shut up.....;) haha but in all seriousness, the ATF sucks. At what point do you ask if the person who was supposed to review your form 4 is even alive still?

Everything sucks right now…

5 weeks into Form 1 for SBR
15 weeks into Form 4 for suppressor (eFiled)
11.5 months into paper Form 4 for suppressors

i'm about to piss some people off.

Form 4 efiled ( 1 of 2 submitted at the same time) approved in 76 days.

also, and maybe this has been covered, but does the Form 4 not appear in your eforms dashboard? only thing i have there are old old Form 1s from 7 and 8 years ago.

I just got a Form 1 approved in 7 days 🤷‍♂️

Personally, I think people need to stop attempting to deduct motives from cherry-picked data. Looking at the complete dataset, it's just absolute chaos.

I'd share in that sentiment if I was approved in 7 days..

Your lovely gov't agency at work. Called on Monday to check status on my paper file and was told for the 700th time that it was pending. Phone call today that the dealer has the stamp in hand and he takes a hot minute to sort through his stamps so my guess is that its been there a week.

Check cashed 5/27/2021
Approved ???

I'm a week shy of 13 months (5/21/21 cash) on my Sandman-S MIL Contract can... Just called... APPROVED TODAY!!!

Now all my paper forms have been approved, and it's all eForms from here on out. Hopefully my OCL Hydrogen-S on eForm will go quickly. 👍🏼

My brother just sent me a text - two paper form 4's (Gunwerks 8ight and 6ix cans) were approved and stamp arrived today. Total wait of 1 year 3 days.

Keeping my fingers crossed I'll have my E-form 4s approved soon.

Trust with 3 people

2-OSS Rad 22
Ordered - 2/22/21
Tax Stamp Cashed - 3/22/21
Approved - 5/26/22
Picked up - 6/16/22

OSS HX-QD 762 TI
Ordered - 9/24/21
Tax Stamp Cashed - 10/20/21
Approved - 5/26/22
Picked up - 6/16/22

From the date of the check being cashed ended up having a 451 and 239 day wait. Same agent signed. Definitely not first in first out policy. So I guess the 762 wait time wasn’t bad but the 22s was ridiculous. Especially since these are our first suppressors. Now just have to wait till I’m not Oncall next week so I can try them out.

For everyone that’s papered and still waiting good luck hopefully they’ll knock everyone sitting past 1 year sooner than later.

The ATF has absolutely ZERO excuse for their abominable performance with Form 4's....and I don't give a flying fuck what BS our resident ATF apologist is spinning.

How does something, for example, like @plt228 experienced, be justified? 451 and 239 day wait, they both come out on the very same day, from the very same examiner. So, was his Rad 22 Form 4 sitting under a box of donuts for 212 days, eh.

FUCK THE ATF

Does anyone know if we can buy a digital file out our SS fingerprints? I had my done for a can that’s been exiled, and will be getting another one not through SS. Can I buy a copy of them to digitally submit with me new eF4?

Bought 2 suppressors on 12/23/21, form 4 efile, certified on 2/5. Been 95 business days so far. I’ll admit it my first time buying an NFA item and is a little frustrating with the long waits. Spent my whole adult life in LE (not that that matters) but I have an clean background. Maybe my social media posts are effecting it 🤷🏼‍♂️.

So, to summarize...

1. After a year of no joy and frankly pissed that e-files were coming back in maybe 90-120 days, I reached out to my Senator's office.
2. My Senator's office reached out to the ATF legislative liaison who came back with the reply that I have been on NICS "Delay" since 31 Mar.
3. I could not be legitimately on Delay as I have zero adverse records in NICS and I had just passed a NICS on 16 Mar for a BA from Altus.
4. THE VERY SAME DAY, I found an email contact in the UPIN (VAF Office) of NICS and asked for some help in find who on the ATF transaction side of NICS I might be able to contact in order to find out why I'm on Delay. Note, you can appeal a Deny but have zero recourse for an endless delay (well, maybe a lawyer might be able to get something out of them via the courts).
5. A real live wire in VAF Office took the initiative and reached out across the organization to the department that handles AFT NICS transactions.
6. My friendly VAF guy replied ONE DAY AFTER NICS ADVISED THE ATF THAT I WAS ON DELAY, with info that my check was "recently" completed and a Proceed was sent back to the AFT.
7. Now...watch the timeline....I asked my friendly VAF guy what "recently" meant and he replied that it was the day he reached across to ask WTF was going on. Yeah, it was sitting under someone's box of donuts or something.
8. Now, my Senator's office reached out to directly confirm with the FBI/NICS that my background check was successfully completed and then forwarded that to the ATF.
9. Today, the ATF replied "I do show Mr. Baron23 was issued a “PROCEED” from FBI NICS. His application will now be sent to await final processing by a legal instruments examiner within the NFA Division."

Please note that nowhere did the ATF commit...or even estimate...the schedule to complete "final processing". Just "await" Fucking clowns.

I agreed with the Senator's office to give them 4 weeks and if we don't have a fucking stamp, we will rattle their cage yet again.

For me, two big take aways.....1) this is the anatomy of a utterly dysfunctional organization and broken process and people wonder why I fucking HATE government and; 2) if I didn't rattle their cage via my Senator's office, it may have been sitting out there for another year. Its too fucked up for words. Total FUBAR.

Hey, where is our resident ATF defender (or maybe even ATF employee)...come on, man. Explain to us how this is reasonable service for our tax dollar? Eh?
The end of this abortion of a process is at hand.

After:
- engaging my Senator's office
- provoking the FBI to finally run my Form 4 NICS check that they were sitting on for months (got to love that I for Instant in NICS, yeah?)
- the FBI then sending it back to the AFT with a PROCEED
I called the ATF NFA branch today and a lovely and very nice young lady named Taylor said "oh, this is your lucky day...your Form 4 was approved yesterday" (not clear how that happened as yesterday was a Fed holiday but I'm not complaining).

Just a few days shy of 13 months and IMO it would have been well longer if we (me and my Senator's constituent services staff) didn't start pinging both the ATF and the FBI.

Now, Taylor did tell me that the ATF is still holding 8 months as their current average processing time for Form 4's....but she couldn't break out the efile data from paper form data and I suspect strongly that if you took the efiles out of the average, then it would be more like 12-14 months.

And this is what we pay our taxes for....FFS.

Eh, one day to three weeks is fairly standard.
I'm not sure I agree with that Milehigh told me that they usually get them in one day but given everything going on lately its been more like 3-5 days. Three weeks....haven't heard of that at all. Do you have any specific data points...first hand knowledge of a a Form 3 taking three weeks?

Cheers

Yes, more than once.

How did you contact the FBI regarding your NICS check that was in limbo? I'm going through a similar situation now and when I call the ATF they are completely useless.

There is absolutely no published contact data for FBI NICS division that I could find.

So, I reached out to the VAF (this is the team for UPINs, right). They had an email address published.

1655845077975.png

So, I wrote them...acknowledged that I understand that this has zero to do with their area of responsibility but asked if they could provide a contact name/data for who handles ATF NICS transactions. Son of a gun, I got a live wire who wrote back to me the next day that he/she reached out to the supervisor of that section who advised that my NICS check for ATF Form 4 was approved and a PROCEED sent back to the ATF....on the very same day we pinged them. sigh...it was probably sitting under a box of donuts for 3 months.

Now, understand that I did this as my Senator's office had gone to the ATF who advised that I was on NICS DELAY since end of March. Since I have zero arrest records and multiple security clearances as both mil officer and civilian this DELAY status simply could not be justified and apparently is was not insofar as soon as we pinged them it was suddenly approved. Oh, what a shock.

I would advise you to document your situation to your Senator's office and some constituent service staffer will reach out to the ATF Congressional liaison office contact. If you have no data/info at all as to where its hung up, they won't have much to work with so I'd start there, personally.
