Fox in the Henhouse

It's a thing, for sure. Wife's g'ma was well off. After she passed her grandad wound up dating the caretaker who basically married him, then fleeced him for everything he had

Old folks can be stupid and stubborn

Did he die with a smile on his face?

You guys may have lost out but to him it may have been worth every penny.

At work in the construction industry, we would run into guys I called "130 year old guys." If they did everything they said they did for as long as they did, the would have to be 130 years old. 30 years as an electrician. 20 years as a race car driver. Green beret and then Navy SEAL in Vietnam for a number of combat tours. On and on.
Same in the oilfield. We had one guy we called Black Ops for all the stories he had to tell.

Edit: He went to work for a different company, we later found out those guys called him Resume due to his extraordinary work experience. 😂

That there is telling.
Figure minimum of ~about~ 23 to be a buck e5 sarge in war time.
Back it up....68 - 23..... *allegedly* born in 1945.
Would make him a minimum of about 78 years old.
How old does he claim to be ?
I don't see an issue with the 40 year legal beagle claim....but the BAR check is a simple, and good, idea.
Being a Ranger during 'Nam was a whole bunch easier than being a Ranger today, then it was just another dude in the Army, today it's (for some reason) an elite squad tag.
Chasing a bail jumper to Cuba ? I highly doubt that shit.....HIGHLY.
That is serious Hollywood shit, it just doesn't happen in real life.
Is his name Sylvester by any chance ?
That minimum is little high . I was 19 when I made E-5, Combat Medic 101 Airborne, 1/327 Infantry. Several of our guys got there at 18, and left as E-5's, a year later.
Simple remedy was already mentioned, pay for a background check, get everything. 30-50 bucks. If you are a Vet, ask to see his DD-214. If you want to be pushy, ask for a Financial Statement. I also agree with having a family trust. Lock the SOB out. A short night out for "Bowling" to "get to know you better" can be extremely effective.

He's got this patch that he claims was his unit

I've spent a few min on this site, but havent decided if/how to contact anyone through there. Figured that might be a long shot. Is there an Army version of Don Shipley?

WTF is that?

I just love it when non-mil dudes mix and match shit.

The 1st Cavalry had organic helicopter units. It was originally the 11th Air Assault (Test) before becoming the 1st Cav. My dad was a plank owner in the 11th and then the 1st Cav. He talked about working with the LRRPS.

Looking through the unit history, I do see a E/52 stood up by a Green Beret and then attached to the 1st Cav, then the LRRPs made part of the 75th Ranger Regiment.

And digging further, here is the actual official unit home page of the 1st Cav LRRPS. You can contact them to see if he is on the unit rolls.

One more edit. Maybe you will get lucky and one of the real LRRPs will live nearby and you can ambush this guy with him. And video tape it and put it on YouTube.

My Bill turned 75 yesterday, went to his birthday party, Marine in Nam, his body is fucked, hands shake, agent orange, walks with a cane, physical mess, takes a shit load of meds each day to stay alive, told me they lost another from their group that enlisted at the same time, only a few left. Went to a breakfast earlier this year with him, ones that can still move, look like shit, poor health. My HS buddy's brother came back fro Nam all shot up, Marine, took him 1.5 years until he could walk again, Big Jim died years ago, heart just gave out from the toll of pain meds.

Buddy's BIL, retired Seal just a few years ago, 100% disability, guys that really did it, paid in flesh and blood, are not healthy today.

Bet Grandma has a Fraud.

hankpak.. A young combat medic saved my life "across the fence" in '68. Never knew his name. Owe him a debt of gratude. Dont know who was scared more. Me or him. Had to be 18/19. Medics went thru hell trying to save lives and are the real heros IMHO. Welcome home my brother. RLTW Rob

Tell him you want to see his Dept of Vets affairs ID card. Has his full name and his picture on it with a barcode on the right. American flag on the left. Mag Strip on the back with Va phone number. Ask what his "prefix" was. I agree with Californio. Full of BS. RLTW AATW

We were the "bait" IMHO so the flyboys could swoop in and smoke em. Bigshots never wanted to win it. Hate a wannabe SOB like that. Like to meet him face/face over some torpedo juice. Sorry for the rant. LOL

Slight quibble. My dad was drafted by Army in 1969, age 19. Did a tour in Vietnam, discharged as SGT E5 age 21.

The rest of the story, especially considering the "left bodies" RE Cuba, well, that is the type of comment usually offered by BS artists.
