Don't forget about singer Del Shannon, ("Runaway" and "Searching"), who was prescribed Prozac by his doctor for depression. After his career took off he threw it away because he was no longer depressed. 2 days later he blew his head off with a shotgun.
His wife said he NEVER had suicidal thoughts or actions. She sued the makers of Prozac for millions, and she received a large settlement, the amount of which was never disclosed.
i love runaway, one of my favorites
his tragedy mimics problems that plagues the pharma industry even to this day
not saying taking "mind pills" is a good idea or not, thats a different debate
but any drugs that have to do with your mind chems, protocols and monitoring have to be followed when on and "coming off"
you just cant just stop...or like above, things go haywire up in the brain
people think that taking a scrip cures them...
nope its a life long chemical that you now need to function or you can revert back to your original disposition which you didnt like in the first place
if your situation was tenable, you would have not gone to the doctor to begin with
so by taking a pill for a few months the patient thinks that their crappy job, family or lack of is different all of a sudden?
no, you just have a pill that helps you deal with it...situation is still the same and your mind cant deal with it anymore
you just cannot stop and start at will, and many patients do which then causes the underlying issues to worsen
of they go to the shrink and lie which only hurts you in the long run
the shrink knows your lying but they cannot force you to tell the truth, you have to want the help
its a detrimental cycle that many patients bring upon themselves more often than not
chemicals are only part of the solution
